Grassfire at Oaks Estate

The ACT Rural Fire Service and ACT Fire & Rescue has extingugished a grass fire burning at Oaks Estate on the ACT NSW border.

The Bushfire Alert and Warning Level for this fire was set at ADVICE.

The ACT Rural Fire Service and ACT Fire & Rescue has multiple units on scene.

The fire is was located near an electricity sub station on River Road.

The fire was small in in size and has been controlled.

At the current fire danger level of VERY HIGH fires can be controlled. This will change as conditions worsen this afternoon.

Related, we had to call an Ambo to Shingle Hill Way. We had the street signs – it wasn’t on their maps !
Fortunately, the delay wasn’t life threatening.

River rd – River st …grrrr an example of when it coud have meant the difference. Though luckily not this time. Brigade arrived in minutes of the fire been called in.

We wached the fire start from our house and it was luck the wind was blowng from the nth west

The fire appears to have been started by falling power lines. Oops. The substation (a NSW supply company, not ACTEW) is on Railway St.

River Road is not relevant at all, it is in Queanbeyan. There was a merry trail of fire engines trundling up and down River Street, which at least is in Oaks Estate, even if it doesn’t go near the location of the fire. They sorted the fire pdq, but I wonder how they all came to make the same mistake, one after the other, both the town and the bushfire brigades…
