UPDATE: The grass fire burning in the area of Mulligans Flat Rd, Sutton in the Yass Valley area has been contained. The fire has burned approximately 523 hectares.

Crews from the NSW Rural Fire Service and ACT Rural Fire Service will remain on scene this morning and across the day.

Residents and those travelling through the area are advised to monitor the situation and follow the directions of firefighters.

People relocating horses are advised that Exhibition Park in Canberra is open.

The advice levels for the Sutton fire and that at Tarago have both been set to “Advice”, which means there is no immediate danger but those who could be affected should stay up to date in case the situation changes.

EARLIER STORY:

A fire just north of Canberra at Mulligans Flat near Sutton is burning out of control, which has led to the closure of Mulligans Flat Road at the NSW border.

The NSW Rural Fire Service has set the alert level for the blaze to watch and act, which means there is a heightened level of threat, conditions are changing and residents should start taking action now to protect themselves and their families.

It tweeted a short time ago that it had received reports of property being under threat.

Well this is interesting:

“NSW Rural Fire Service crews are still on the scene of the devastating Currandooley fire in Tarago, but fire investigators revealed on Friday the source of the fire was a low-flying bird.

“The fire started as a result of a bird flying close to high-voltage powerlines, igniting and landing in dry grass on the 17 January 2017,” the NSW RFS fire investigation report read.”

Probably first it was stunned by a nearby wind turbine (bird blender) blade.
What breed of was it, a Firebird perhaps?
