Greens also not impressed by the infrastructure plan

Following on from yesterday’s launch of the infrastructure plan and the Liberals’ lack of enthusiasm the Greens’ Caroline le Couteur has also expressed her disappointment:

“The plan is largely a re-announcement of a succession of ACT government capital works – it’s the budget with pictures,” said Ms Le Couteur.

“The plan acknowledges the need to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change. However it does not act on either of these.

“The transport portion of the ACT Government’s 2011 Infrastructure Plan is about roads, roads and more roads, while important sustainable transport developments are only considered.”

Caroline at some length tallies up the road spending and the public transport spending and finds roads out to 2021 are getting $211,250,000 while public transport will get $17,249,000.

(Although one assumes the buses will run on the roads)

There are a couple of things firmed up in the plan such as William Slim Drv duplication, Stage 2 of the Belconnen Arts Centre, some parks/ovals, and a few other things I can’t remember off hand. And light rail gets a specific mention for Northbourne Ave.

But there are some key projects notable by their absence. Such as Gundaroo and Horse Park Drives duplication.

And there’s nothing that I saw about expansion of the bus fleet. Did no-one notice that this disappeared out of the budget this year? After a few years of working to replace the clapped out fleet, before the job is done, we have nothing.

And here I was thinking and hoping that a ‘Green Reduction Plan’ meant getting rid of the Green politicians and the Green Party all together!

Damn.
