Greens Senate candidate already?!?

So, rumour is that Lin Hatfield-Dodds is already rallying for support for her next attempt at an ACT Senate seat.

A friend of mine, who is in the Greens ‘in-crowd’ has told me that Hatfield-Dodds is ‘doing the rounds and seeking support for the preselection…. and pretty much has it in the bag’ – Sorry to any other Greens hopefuls, it looks like Lin is set in her ways and isn’t letting any other potential candidates stand in her way.

All seems very odd to me, given the election is what, not for another 2 years (unless Lin knows something we don’t)

Definition of a Green used to be someone who already has their bush block. Now it seems to be someone who lives in the inner city and drives a (real) 4WD.

Should we be glad the pretence has gone, or annoyed they’re not even trying any more?

I’m not surprised. Hatfield-Dodds is a strong candidate. The ACT Greens would be foolish to not want her to run again.

Tainted for all time by the “I drive a V6 Landcruiser” hypocrisy, I’m afraid.

Landcruisers are V8, aren’t they? The diesel ones would be a straight 6, I’d have thought.

I was going to put V8 – but thought no Green could conceivably drive a V8! Well, well, so she really has no limit to her shameful behaviour.

So THAT’s why Ms “Self Interest” Dodd has suddenly been all over local radio like a rash, ostensibly on disability topics …

It’s not unusual to start the process early. Prior to the last election the major parties were doing their pre selections 18 months out. The earlier you start the greater dissemination of your profile, the better the name recognition at the election…

Any serious candidate needs to start working to community years in advance if they want a serious crack at toppling an incumbent.

“Sorry to any other Greens hopefuls, it looks like Lin is set in her ways and isn’t letting any other potential candidates stand in her way.”

My dislike of “professional candidates” entitles me to make the following wise crack…

That’s no difficult task for her. Though if Canberra is to elect the quarterback, I do hope the AEC tweaks the quotas meaning she needs 1.5 to get elected.

I wonder if she’ll ditch the big petrol-guzzling car before the next election.

So, rumour is that the Liberals have started their astroturfing campaign in earnest for the next Federal election.

A friend of mine says that Gary Humphries is getting a bit too old and grumpy, and his habit of pissing off voters is making the Liberal power brokers a little nervous. Sorry to any other Liberal hopefuls, but it seems that John Howard did an excellent job of weeding out any sign of backbone in that party. The herp derping in the Liberal party at all levels has been increasing in election-oriented turbulence lately.

All seems very odd to me, given the election is not for another 2 years.
