Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Simon Corbell, just two days ago announced he was “further strengthening” governance at the Emergency Services Authority.

This morning it’s man overboard as the Emergency Services Commissioner, Gregor Manson, resigned last night.

Simon is thanking Gregor for his efforts over the last three years.

UPDATED: The Liberals’ Brendan Smyth is having a good old gloat:

“The farce of the last couple of weeks clearly shows how dysfunctional the ESA has become under stewardship of Mr Corbell,” Mr Smyth said.

“In an attempt to salvage some credibility, a flustered Mr Corbell has gone around his Emergency Services Chief to make changes.

Does anyone wonder why CEOs of ACT Government departments or instrumentalities leave before their contract expires? Ask the ACT Auditor General.

My comments are the same way Thumper. I also know that it would be high unlikely that anyone would have complaints with the ESA Employee’s/Volunteers, management are another question.

From the minimal face to face I’ve had with Manson, he use to act a bit cocky towards Volunteers. He made me feel like he was better then the volunteers because he ran us.

Also he has never liked being told what to do by the Emergency Services Minister. But now that Manson has left & with the creation of 4 Chief Officers, maybe a ESA boss isn’t needed & just have the Chief Officers speak with the Emergency Services Minister. Surely that would help with the ESA’s budget.

Sorry, cannot agree with a word of the above. Manson was lost from the outset, mind you so was Dunn. The business model might not have been the best, and we can thank the politicians for that, but Dunn’s incompetence (and the old mates network of cronies he hired) was exceeded only by Manson’s ineffectiveness. I don’t believe any of the troops on the ground will miss him one bit. I hope they get rid of that lump of lard who does their promotions too. If ever there was a loser, he too is it. I don’t know where Corbell goes next with recruiting new service chiefs, which frankly is the only way to go.

Dont le the door hit you in the arse on the way out.

Does anyone know whose advice Corbell was following when he decided to change the top structure for the Emergency Services Agency?

Possibly the happiest day of his life, getting out before the next fire season to leave behind an unsupportive boss to deal with it all.

I wonder if and when they’ll start advertising for a replacement.

Gregor is quite a principled kind of bloke. He’s stood his ground / or walked (depending on he circumstances) before. Something must be up the upper eschelons of the ESA.
