Griffith Library sold before the closure was announced?

In the comments on another story Nyssa made the following allegation that I thought was worthy of further airing:

Today I found out that the land that Griffith Library is on was sold before the announcement to close it was released!

Can anyone confirm/deny add anything?

UPDATED: The Canberra Times is running a denial from the Minister in their “In Brief” section, referring to a Canberra website without the grace, decency, or ethics to cite us.

Oh and I quote: “Those bloody idiots protesting are hitting their heads against a brick wall”.

Today I got confirmation from a 2nd source about the sale of Griffith Library.

Yes it was done ages ago.

If the Minister wants to deny it, that’s fine but both of these people are “close” to the deal.

Or is about to become one…

What gets agreed behind closed doors, and what actually turns up on paper, can be very different things.

Anyone want to bet that whoever does end up developing the land will have been a significant donor to the ALP?

If the Minister is denying it, then they can release all the documents to prove my source wrong.

Simple really.

Spot-on, Big Al (your 10.23pm comment). That’s what I meant about journalistic integrity.

Miz, I suspect that ALP cabinet solidarity is too strong to grant that wish. If you don’t like it you’ll just have to await the next election and vent your spleen on Standope and his fellow lunatics and see if the other bunch of crazies can do any better.

I wish (it’s almost Christmas, after all) that a kindly ‘source’ would spill on the bloody functional review, which is the root of all this evil, so we can find out what’s really going on – what with all these crapola consequential decisions like slashing schools and buses, quibbling about teacher’s CPI increases, etc.

Come on woody – federal elections have been fought and won on issues with less substance than what gets posted on RA … a source is a source none the less and it deserves acknowledgement so that the reader themselves can decide on the veracity of the piece.

‘Griffith library is sited’, even. Need more beer.

“An anonymous person posting unsubtantiated rumours on an Internet site next to nobody’s ever heard of said that she’d heard the land on which the Griffith was sold before the library’s closure was announced. Not surprisingly, the relevant Minister said that it wasn’t true. We understand that our readers might like to read more grossly inaccurate heresay from complete strangers in the comfort of their own homes, so please be sure to visit http://the-riotact.com.”

Well, we’re just the internet. Why should anybody care?

Re the Update: CT has no journalistic integrity either.

Anyone put this to the govt?

if this is true it would be the first proof of the Stanhope govt’s deceit rather than incompetence.

Do we know what it was sold for? Another arboretum? units? urban infill of some sort?
