The Canberra Times has the intriguing news that the ACT Government’s actual water use is being hidden behind it’s own “privacy” considerations while that same Government continues to harry householders over water use.

“Actew Corporation spokeswoman Marlene Stolt said the ACT Government, Federal Government, Department of Defence, Queanbeyan City Council, public schools and universities were the top six customers. However, she declined to say which was the top water user and would not disclose any further details, citing customers’ privacy.

Who would have thought an abstract thing like a government would have a right to privacy from the citizens it is supposed to be representing?

maybe someone should go around a take timed photos of all the water waste; the watering of the road along northbourne, a second soaking on a govt department building when the runoff from the earlier soaking is still to disappear down the drain, watering in the rain or at lunchtime on a 40 degree day.

Or we could just dig up the lawn and transport it to our own gardens…
hmmmm

I work at a local University after hours and can say for sure that we would be one of the top water users.

Every grass area is watered every second night, RAIN, HAIL or SHINE (even though the “experts” say one good soaking a week is all that a lawn requires). It was every night under the last retrictions then with the latest round it’s been backed off to every second night.

I have seen one patch of grass being watered at 4pm daily on very sunny days with a fair percentage of water being sent down the gutters after hitting a constuction sign that has been placed in a thoughtless position.

All the sprinklers around one building cover not only the grass but the footpaths and the parking areas which then also runs down the gutters.

It is quite hard to watch all this when my lawn at home is so dead, my plants are all suffering, and my kids have no backyard with lawn to play ON. All the while the people who get about the uni, are so busy they wouldn’t realise there is grass NEXT to the path they are walking/riding on.

do as I say not as I do AYE!

The government and media are using the water problems we are now facing as a distraction while they sneak through the legislation to keep us all connected to big brother.
