ACT Policing’s Criminal Investigations is investigating its second shooting incident in one week.

Police were called about 6am this morning (Friday, August 9) to a unit in Gungahlin after the resident woke to find a hole in a window. The resident had heard a noise and when they went to investigate located a hole in the window which appeared to be from a bullet.

Members from Gungahlin Police Station attended and assessed the damage, confirming a bullet hole in to a window of a unit on Anthony Rolfe Avenue.

AFP Forensic Services will conduct an examination later this morning.

Detectives from Criminal Investigations are conducting enquiries into the incident.

Anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious overnight on Anthony Rolfe Avenue is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

Still surprised nobody is hearing this. It’s not all that simple to suppress handguns especially.

Would be interested in how sure they are that it is a bullet hole and not some tool with a slingshot and ball bearings.

Ummm…by the bullets found inside perhaps?

On sound, it’s winter and everyone has windows closed, blinds drawn. We barely hear trucks drive by, so maybe not that surprising. Different matter in summer though…

Yeah, but the crack of a gun going off is a pretty sharp, piercing crack. The noise travels through quite a lot. If it’s definitely from a gun, I’d be interested to see what they are using.

You are obviously not aware of the outstanding build quality of houses in Gungahlin…

HAHAHAHA

If’s a .22 pistol with a decent muzzle projection, using an oil filter as a one-off suppressor is pretty trivial.

Not sure about the Kandahar comparison, but if parts of Canberra become (even) more like the western suburbs of Sydney, will the Daily Telegraph start writing caring, “I feel your pain” (in a patronising kind of way) stories about us, and will politicians lose sleep wondering whether we really love them?

Impressive that it took 25 posts for someone to make a racist comment, despite JohnBoy’s carefully laid trap. The other group he is trailing for hasn’t really bitten yet.

IP

That wasn’t my point, so it took 31 posts.

Anti-racism can never be racist. But I apologise for misunderstanding your intent.Perhaps it will take 34 posts for the overt racism to be on display.

ABC reports it was a .22. A sub-sonic 22lr makes bugger all noise, definitely not the crack or boom of a larger cal round. Could even be a .22 air rifle.

No one heard the shot from Eastman’s Ruger either.

I live quite close to there and was awake at the time, cleaning my gun, didn’t hear a thing

The CT reports that Up to 13,000 dwellings will be built in Gungahlin following the Federal government’s approval of a strategic assessment for the area.

13,000 new targets.

This is the ACT Government’s response to the recently approved Tralee housing development.
Tralee happens to be in NSW so the ACT will get no revenue by way of sales or rates.
The market will be oversupplied for a change and you can bet that Corbell and Barr will be reminding the next generation of first home buyers that only Gungahlin will have a light rail service.
It goes unsaid that Tralee already has a railway line which could be used to access Canberra.

Have you asked what constitutes ‘manned’ in ACT Policing procedures. I recall NSW Police had some interesting definitions of ‘manned’.

Unless of course one had say used a .44 navy arms which would be more of a smoky messy boom thud!

Anthony Rolfe Avenue? That’s a terrible name for a street. It conjures up the image of a crooked car-dealer, at least in my mind.

I hope they are checking all their firearms for recent use. Police have been known to fool around before.

I will never tease Gungahlin Al again, as he must be a warlord.

Johnboy, a quick look at this recent story and a Google image search for ‘Kandahar’ makes me question both your aesthetic comparison qualifications and your mathematical skills. Seems a long bow to draw to compare a bullet through a window with ongoing indiscriminate violence and unrest, and just a little insensitive to those who have left Kandahar and might appreciate a place like Gungahlin where things are so quiet that a bullet passing through a window and injuring no one (nor, it seems, even waking anyone) gets the attention of a semi-competent police force.

whhhhhhaaaaaaaaa

There is a pic showing the police tape outside the unit shown here – which is definitely right across the road from the police station – literally even

I hope the disturbing trend of drive-by shootings in Sydney doesn’t catch on here.

Perhaps a town the size of Gungahlin warrants a police station that is open and manned 24 hours a day.

Police are tweeting the station is manned 24/7

Kandahar? So are we implying that it is Afghani immigrants, or American drones?

Different premises, right opposite the police station. What was someone saying in the other thread about no-one hearing it?

So I wonder whether the tattoo shop was purely coincidence, with everyone leaping to the obvious conclusion, while it could have been any of the tenancies along there?

Can only hope the police have security cameras that may have caught something, given it is so much closer to them this time.
