We live down a cul de sac and they were looking for something related to Telstra but couldn’t find it.

Competitive prices? Customer service?

heh, chuckle! Not bad.

My wife spoke to some people on the front lawn yesterday who were “looking for the Teltra box so they could connect the NBN”.

Maybe it’s different in the suburbs, but Telstra boxes are usually pretty damn obvious!

Yeh it was odd, I wasn’t there and my wife is not technical.

Did she let them in to use your phone…?

haha, who has a phone with Telstra, I thought that stopped in 2002.

Given the contracts that have been handed out already, dunno if the Libs can shut down the NBN.

Agree totally that the NBN did win them the election. The Libs policy on broadband has been a failure, the sale of Telstra set us back 10 years in that regard without a doubt.

Let’s hold another meeting where we can be told how a Liberal government will close down the hugely expensive NBN white elephant and prevent a government-owned monopolistic stranglehold taking over telecommunications in this country. Here’s hoping Tony won’t let us down on this one.

BWAA AHAHA HA HAHA

Yeah, because, private industry has done *such* a wonderful job on providing us with the world-class system we have today.

There are tin-pot African dictatorships that have better telecommunication infrastructure than we do.

Not even Malcolm Turnbull believes that it’s a bad idea.

Ever thought that the NBN may have been the reason Labor won and liberal lost. The whole white elephant thing is a myth used for political purposes only.

By all means argue over the carbon tax and the rather stupid debate about boat people, but the NBN is definately not a waste of money. The only reason people think it is, because that was the political line used by the opposition. The coalition won’t get rid of it because, if they do get elected, they’ll need support from the senate. The NBN is a fairly popular piece of legislation and I bet many within the coalition actually agree with the approach. They probably wish private enterprise were building it, but the fundamental idea is a good idea.

OP can you confirm the plan is once Gungahlin is rolled out it will continue through the rest of Canberra. Thats what I’ve heard anyway.

Yes Watto that is correct. And I had a discussion on exactly that with all the NBN guys after the meeting. They agreed this interpretation was correct. You see there is a heck of a lot of work setting up depots for construction and employing local staff, managing the community comms etc. There words were along the lines of ‘it wouldn’t make sense to uproot all of that by going away, only to have to put it back together again to do the rest’.

I suspect that given there is a commitment, and a multitude of contracts, no matter what Tony Abbot says, it will go ahead – else the govt will face some hefty lawsuits.

Is that before or after the “Global Warming is a Myth” meeting?

It was a good meeting with 66 people present. Key points:

Ngunnawal and Amaroo will go first.
From the time they start they believe the whole FSAM area will be connected within 12 months.

Question asked “what if the Coalition gets in and ditches NBN?” Response ” we have a contract to install to 20,800 premises within the next two years. Nothing changes that. Within three months we’ll announce the next maps for the next 12 months work.”

More details in my FB posts from the meeting at https://www.facebook.com/gungahlin

Gungahlin folk please note that our usual monthly meeting will be tonight – same venue 7:30.

We have LDA coming to talk about the “Nicholls Community Village” development plans, and Alistair MacCallum from AMC Architects to present plans for a large office development on Anthony Rolfe Ave – yes that’s right – local jobs! By Geocon, who developed the Abode hotel.
And we’ll have a couple of bottles of Christmas cheer and nibbles to follow our last meeting of a pretty eventful year!
