Nothing from the Police yet but the ABC reports a nasty stabbing in Gungahlin last night.

Police were called to a disturbance at a house in Gungahlin and found a man with multiple stab wounds.

    He is undergoing surgery today.

A 21-year-old man is helping police with their inquiries.

UPDATED: Apparently the argument was over a computer game.

Further Update: The ABC reports that flatmates with the sound up too loud allegedly copped a kitchen knife in the head. Let this be a lesson to a lot of you.

… and hide the knives!

what with the fact the guy was stabbed for playing WOW too loud, might be a lesson there kiddies…

The lesson would be:
If you’re in a sharehouse and do your things at the same time as they are at home, and your tastes differ to your flatmates, buy headphones (or a helmet).

I generally prefer yelling at the kids to stabbing them, but then again I have never encountered World of Warcraft. Maybe it has subliminals ….

what with the fact the guy was stabbed for playing WOW too loud, might be a lesson there kiddies, the old cry of Turn it down! You’ll go deaf! could be changed to Turn It Down Or I Will Stab You!

I much prefer paintball – at least you are out in the open….

I’ve stabbed some boars in warcraft.

Then I went and played something more interesting.

Hang-on, did this post start off with something to do about a stabbing?

I play WoW sometimes, and last time i looked, I am female:) Its a good way of relaxing after dealing with idiots all day.

Anarchy Online. ‘Tis all I’m saying.

Have to say I’m with Aurelius on this one.
But to each their own, even if their choice makes no sense…

It’s amazing how many female gamers there are. I think it’s nearing the 50% mark for online games.

My boyfriend actually got me into WoW. It’s quite a relaxing pastime.

I know a few smoking hot women who play WoW and end up dating guys they meet in the game.

There might be better ways to meet girls, but a common interest is no bad thing.

For some, maybe.

People, make love, not warcraft.

Playing WoW is still the best way of ensuring you die with your V-plates.

The first casualty of war is your haircut.

But I suggest that anyone wanting to MMO do research first, and find what appeals to them, and in a timeslot they can deal with.

And then sign up to EVE 🙂

I hate WoW with a passion that burns with the fire of a thousand nuns.

Thank god, you had me worried!

WoW is an unending grind, with a focus on guild-allying to score entirely irrelevant gear.

There are better things out there, but none with the market saturation.
So a lot of people wanting something to get into, that they can talk to friends and socialise locally about, choose WoW because the alternatives might not appeal to their group of peeps.

But I suggest that anyone wanting to MMO do research first, and find what appeals to them, and in a timeslot they can deal with.
(And that they either turn down their speakers in a sharehouse, or use headphones)

I wouldn’t mind playing it. I actually want to…but when I saw some videos and heard some soundbytes of people going off on it, it got me a little worried.

You play WoW Skid?!

Go to Youtube and type in ‘Ventrilo’ and you will see what’s wrong with you.

The police reported “a nasty stabbing”?! Is there any other kind?

It involves a Pork Sword. Oh, hangon… Nasty. I guess not – hurrrrrrrrrrr!

(Sorry, thought I’d balance out my recent TransACT rant. Anyway, why hasn’t someone here run with the Computer Game angle yet?)

A bit of a poke with a knife?

Ah, that’s “circumstances”.

Wide Boy Jake5:32 pm 28 Oct 08

It’s a bit like the police using “no suspicious cercumstances” as a euphemism for suicide.

Mmm. I think if you are “assisting with inquiries” (I have made some enquiries, and apparently “inquiry” is favoured in British English only for referring to official investigations), you may be answering questions at the cop shop but haven’t been arrested. Yet.

Gungahlin Al2:55 pm 28 Oct 08

If enquiries is to be used at all caf, then that is the right spelling. Inquiries is generally the term for official hearings – senate inquiry. But i believe that strictly speaking they are interchangable.

However (noting our dept has just issued an edict that sentences in ministerials cannot start with “However,” – bull), while it may be something the police use, it doesn’t have to transfer into the media’s write-up – especially immediately after advice that the person in question has been arrested. That’s gone beyond “helping”.

That of course should be “inquiries”. Oops.

“helping/assisting police with their enquiries” has a long and proud tradition.

Does anyone know why have we gone from plain old ‘suspect’ to ‘helping police with enquiries’ and ‘person of interest’.
