Gungahlin to get a Government shopfront

Katy Gallagher and Meredith Hunter have released a joint communique following their meeting to discuss the Parliamentary Agreement which underpins the ACT Government.

They’re playing happy families and seem to be agreeing that most of the agreement has been delivered on, which leaves the Greens to sharpen their pencils for a wishlist post-election.

But of interest is progress towards an ACT Government shopfront in Gungahlin:

The Government confirmed that a Government shopfront will be included in the proposed
Gungahlin Government Office Block. Examination is underway to assess whether current on-line
services and shop front services in Dickson and Belconnen are able to meet the needs of the
community.

The next meeting is slated for July.

Where’s the one in Woden?

There is one in Woden next to the Library and it offers full services not cut down like the Civic branch.

Yup, It can be pretty busy, just like all the others, but while waiting you can use the free WiFi from the library next door.

It’s a right royal pain in the sphincter to go to Dickson or Belco (or now Gunners) during a working day to get a licence renewal. Instead of the usual hour of mind numbing bordem, once you leave Civic you may as well pack up for the day because when you get back you won’t find a parking spot near the office that’s less than a half hour walk.

Well if that’s your biggest concern, you could always catch one of the frequent buses from Civic that will go directly up Northbourne and stop directly opposite the Dickson Motor Registry. Anything leaving platform 8.

So every major centre will have one except Civic ? brilliant planning there – and no, I don’t count the library as it is a cut down service. e.g. you have to go to Dickson to pay your rego and get the sticker if you don’t want to risk it going missing from your mailbox.

Agreed about Civic.

Only time I go is for the mandatory 5yr photo telling you that you’re getting old. I’m not holding my breath. We’ve been waiting 20 years for services like this.

Has Gungahlin really been around for 20 years? I must get around to going there some time! : )

Indeed it has.

It’s good that this promise to the Gungahlin community hasn’t fallen through the cracks. Kudos to Meredith and Katy for sticking with it.

I get the rego mailed to me every year. Although I do have a PO Box, so that probably helps.
