Gungahlin to get NBN ahead of the queue

In 2005 I lived in Jakarta, Indonesia for several months. One wouldn’t normally class Indonesia as a so-called ‘first world’ country, but to my surprise Internet speeds were super quick and extremely cheap, with no crazy ‘shaping’ or download limits. I moved to Gungahlin in 2010 and feel as though I’m back on dialup, stuck with plain ADSL, and this being one of Canberra’s ‘newer’ areas! Six years on Indonesia is still streets ahead (no pun intended) of Australia with their Internet infrastructure. I just hope the NBN lives up to the hype and we’re not still stuck with shaping, download limits and competitive (cheaper) plans, that is of course if one can afford to have it installed from the footpath to the house in the first place!

NBN ain’t done and dusted until they can get Telstra’s signature on the papers. That’s the big stumbling block now.

Say what?! Gungahlin doesn’t have good internet!? OMG! Who would’ve thunk that moving into a poorly planned area with 1.5 access roads would skimp on internets? And here I was thinking Gungahlin was a sprawling metropolis with pools and APS workplaces and Bunyips.

IP packets take longer to reach Dunlop because they are routed via the GDE. Everyone knows that.
