ACT Policing is appealing to the public after a burglary in Kambah on Saturday night (November 26) where a number of firearms were stolen.

The burglary is believed to have occurred sometime between 10.30pm on Saturday, November 26 and 7.00am on Sunday, November 27. Police believe the offender(s) have entered the unlocked garage of a home in Faithfull Circuit, Kambah, and taken the entire gun safe that was secured in the owner’s garage.

Police believe the home owner’s wheelbarrow was used by the offender(s) to move the gun safe from the garage to nearby parkland.

Three bolt action rifles were stolen along with a single barrel shotgun and an air rifle. The bolt action rifles were without their bolts, making them inoperable. No ammunition was stolen.

Anyone who may have seen or heard any suspicious activity between 10.30pm on Saturday, November 26 and 7.00am on Sunday, November 27 around Faithfull Circuit in Kambah, is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

It’s a bit problematic that the vermin could actually detach the gunsafe from its foundation, and take the whole lot. But hats off to the owner for storing the bolts separately. My rifles are stored in one safe, and the bolts are stored in another safe. It’s the only way to go.

If the gunsafe was that easy to ‘detach’ from the ground, something tells me that it wasnt ‘secure’ like the article suggests.

If the safe was actually ‘secured’ to the floor, it shouldnt be so easy that a couple of guys can walk into his garage (presumably while he’s at home in the evening), somehow separate the safe from its foundation, load it into his own wheelbarrow then push it out of his yard, without him noticing.

So when does the drive-by campaign start in Canberra? I’ve been watching these thefts with interest over the last year or so.

Or are all these guns just being exported to Sydney?

But you can only try so hard with bolts and locks, and the scum will find a way to ooze in.

The demonisation of legally owned firearms and owners is responsible for these thefts! Everyone, including our own wives, have been brainwashed into thinking that anyone with a firearm is a villain and that guns kill people and that we must think of the children and store them as far from the house as possible. So, end result is they are stored out in sheds and garages and stolen from under our very noses in the dead of night because we can’t hear a thing and to the crook, it is a simple crime, no witnesses, little chance of confrontation and above all, time to pull off the heist!

Once, legally owned firearms were stored in locked cupboards in the wardrobe or in a trunk under the bed where they could be accessed relatively quickly or better still, the crooks thought they could be, so it was considered a risky operation to try and steal them.

I won’t say where mine are but any crook who has a shot at them had better bring his best A game with him because he’ll be in for the surprise of the century!

I find it’s still best to store them in the baby’s cot. Extra ammo makes for a great rattle and hand-grenades come in handy when the little mite is teething.

I wonder if it is the same thieves who recently helped themselves to a very expensive bow and arrow in the same suburb?
