Gus' Gutted?

Anyone know what the deal is with Gus’ Cafe?

Went to grab an after work coffee the other night and not only was it closed, but everything had been cleared out. The only notice was for U 8 One 2 Catering and I can’t find anything online about them closing down, renovating or being bought out etc.

Where else am I going to take all my internet dates out for coffee now?

[ED – Man up and take them for a drink? Better for your nerves]

UPDATED: Bighead has reported:

“Asked one of the guys that was clearing it out the other day. Apparently it’s being renovated. Will be open hopefully around the end of next week.”

Interesting; bigmouth (feet) does not say much, but it is always not worth listening to.

I give them a go every now and then, but the service is really slow, every time I go there. MIght try them again when the re open.

There is rather a lot of competition across the road these days.

Great, change the decor of a cafe thats been doing great for so many years, so it looks hip and trendy like every other carbon copy cafe. Pass!

Gus’s is a Canberra icon, known for its awful coffee, poor service and overpriced mediocre meals.

Um Ive had a few breakfasts at Gus’s and have to say I’ve never found them to be mediocre they were always decent in size and the last one I had was a nice spicy Spanish omelette.

The service isn’t too bad, but I’d rate their drinks higher than their food. The meals I’ve had there were pretty poor and would rate below most pub/bistro meal. Hopefully that may improve with the new and improved..

Also I would have thought they put some fairly big signs up telling their customers what was happening since most people only realised seeing it gutted and full of workmen. I couldn’t see anything while walking past the other day.

Why do people always have to bag out places that many other people enjoy? If you realised that everyone has different tastes and standards and just let it be, the world would be a better place.

It’s good to hear that they will be reopening.
Gus’ Cafe has to be one of the best in the CBD. I find their staff to be perky and helpful, always providing wonderful service with a smile. My friends and I always enjoy any food we order, and we meet there as often as possible.
Perhaps, bigfeet, the staff are less inclined to serve a critical and bitter man who is more than happy to abuse anyone who lacks the perfection you so obviously embody with that same smile.

Oh good.

So, coffee date?

Noticed that it was closed on Friday and saw that it was gutted inside.

Maybe when it re-opens it can actually provide some decent meals/service/coffee instead of relying on it’s “iconic” status

Although, according to this site, being a violent, abusive vagrant apparently makes you a Canberra Icon. Which apparantly is a good thing.

Asked one of the guys that was clearing it out the other day. Apparently it’s being renovated. Will be open hopefully around the end of next week.
