ACT Policing detectives executed a search warrant on a Hackett residence this morning (Friday November 8) during which a small hydroponic growing chamber was found, together with other drugs and prohibited weapons.

Detectives executed the Drugs of Dependence Act search warrant on the home around 10.40am and found the hydroponic chamber inside a locked room under the house. Three plants were found in the chamber, which was equipped with “grow lights”, extractor fan, and irrigation pump.

Also located during the warrant was around 1kg of dried cannabis, around 28 grams of a white powder suspected to be cocaine, plus quantities of other material suspected to be methylamphetamine, and heroin. Police estimate the potential street value of the drugs seized as approximately $30000.

Also seized during the warrant was a quantity of ammunition, some prohibited bladed weapons and a quantity of material suspected to be steroids.
A 39-year-old man was present during the warrant and is currently assisting police with their enquiries. No charges have yet been laid.

Illicit drugs are an ongoing priority for ACT Policing, as they place an unnecessary financial, social and health burden on the community. To make a profit, local drug dealers need to make continued sales and increase their customer base. They prey on vulnerable people, (often troubled young people), who commonly turn to crime to meet the user cost of the addiction.

There are signs you can look out for that drug dealing may be occurring in your area. These include:

premises with drawn curtains, shielded or reflective coated windows during daylight hours
residences with extensive and excessive security systems
frequent visitors to the premises who only stay for short periods of time
suspicious groups meeting at parks, car parks or shopping centres
individuals visiting the premises, regularly changing cars.
Report suspicious illicit drug activity to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the online reporting form. Visit our Crime Stoppers page for more information on how to best provide an effective report.

Weed should be legalised and regulated. There are numerous medical uses for the drug and if any one of you were to read about the history of cannabis you would be shocked at why it was made illegal. I understand that some people who have a predisposition to schizophrenia weed can speed up the on set of the condition but there is no proof that weed causes it. Gluten causes coeliacs disease why don’t they ban wheat? Bloody ridiculous if you ask me and not to mention the beneficial uses that the hemp plant has as a commodity which is the real reason the plant was made illegal in the us back in the 30’s.

When exactly was Friday November 8) ? :O

And Jesus wept… for the places where you could score some good bud were becoming few and far between.

OK, the person was/is a drug dealer if the report’s implications are correct. But ffs, a three plant hydroponic set up with young plants? And, one kg of dried pot with no distinction as to whether it’s head, tip or leaf? Major drug bust my arse! Can’t we just legalise pot so ppl like this aren’t involved in any way whatsoever?

Gooterz, if you have a look at the legislation there is a difference between artificially grown weed and the stuff that grows in the ground… So whilst hydro itself isn’t illegal if you grow tomatoes, well might be a different story for dope

I doubt gooterz even knows what legislation is.

“grow lights”. – I guess the plants weren’t that big?

Given hydroponics isn’t illegal why does the fuzz constantly say how its grown?

Its not like when they bust an outdoor grower they say:

‘Growing in a sunny position getting 12 hours of direct sunlight, in well drained soil with some seasol, to give the plants that extra oomph this growing season.’

I guess not many drug dealers are into aquaponics yet?

Also the fuzz needs a lesson in business “To make a profit, local drug dealers need to make continued sales and increase their customer base”

I for one thought to make a profit drug dealers need to earn more than their expenses. Which they can do quite easily given low material costs and high profit margins.

Watch out for those social people who don’t open their blinds for everyone to see into their house.
Sounds more like the fuzz are trying to stop adultery.
