ACT Policing is seeking witnesses who have not yet spoken to police in relation to an armed robbery at the IGA Supermarket in Hackett last night (Thursday, March 8).

About 6 pm two men entered the store, which had a number of staff and customers, demanding money from the cash registers. One of the men was armed with a long arm firearm and threatened the staff members to open the tills. The staff members complied with the demands and the men fled with a sum of cash.

The first man is described as Caucasian in appearance, medium build, between 175 cm to 185 cm tall (5’9” – 6’), aged in his 20s with an Australian accent. He was wearing a ski mask or similar, a dark-coloured jumper and light blue or grey jeans.

The second man is described as Caucasian in appearance, with a slim build and approximately 183 cm tall (6’). He was wearing a dark-coloured jumper, grey Adidas sweat pants with stripes down the side, white/grey sneakers and had his face covered with an item of clothing.

Anyone who may be able to assist with the investigation is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

I arrived at the IGA minutes after the robbers left. This was a terrifying ordeal for the staff (I don’t think it matters what age you are when a shot gun is pointed at your face) the people in the store and the families with kids sitting outside at Wilburs. Apparently a lot of people ran into Wilburs terrified with children crying. REally scary for all involved.

On a lighter note, I think Captain RAAF is hilarious! I am calling the real estate agent right now for a quick appraisal. 🙂

Captain, where do you think I should move to?

Fair go…

North-side crime, what have I been telling ya’!!!!

And while we’re at it, there was a topic a little while ago on how safe the skate park at Belco is “…..I’ve been there heaps, never any problems, “you don’t know what you’re talking about, blah blah blah……” yeah, right up until the latest mugging of a few days ago.

Read the stats, not only is crime on the increase but the types of crimes are getting more violent. You can’t put that many ‘low priced housing’, ‘New Australians’ and every conceivable culture from all corners of the globe into tiny cottage blocks where you can reach over your fence and touch your neighbors house and expect it to work!

If you dearly wish to stay in Canberra and live up North, get out while you can still get something reasonable for your property. It’s not going to get any better.

Apparently these losers actually stole my neighbours car in ainslie to drive to said robbery… Have eyes peeled for bogans walking around in sweat pants in Ainslie now.

Was at the supermarket tonight. Staff talking to the bloke beside me said the crims were pretty threatening – bear in mind most cashiers at 6pm are Year 10 and 11 students, so no wonder they were freaked. Feel sorry for them, the staff are always so nice. Can’t imagine they got much money though. Always seem to wait in line for ages at that IGA as most people use their cards for purchases.

What we’re really looking for here is someone with a bogan drawl, dressed like … a bogan.

There have been a number of crimes reported lately where the offender has been wearing ‘parachute track pants with a stripe on the side’. I think all persons wearing such attire should be arrested on account that they are likely to commit a crime.

I wonder why they mention that he has “an Australian accent”? That doesn’t exactly narrow it down, does it. Perhaps they meant “a broad Australian accent” but then that is what you would expect from someone robbing an IGA…

I would guess that “talked like a bogan” doesn’t fit in with the official police nomenclature.

‘givvus all ya winnie blues c**t’

Winnie Reds mate. Blues are for girls.

grey Adidas sweat pants with stripes down the side…. now that’s a crime
