Just came across this, http://northcanberra.org.au/suburbs/hackett/hackett-history/ and as an ex Hackett resident I thought I would do my bit.

I was a student at Hackett Primary when it celebrated its hmmmm 25th birthday from memory, (apologies – its been a while ) and I remember our lovely teacher ‘Mrs Scott’ bringing in some great photos of the primary school when it was under construction. I’m sure there are many great photos hiding away in shoe boxes that would love to be shared.

Clearly there is heaps of time but it would be nice to see a good turn out for this event.

It will have to be a quiet coffee amongst friends type of birthday party otherwise someone will complain about the noise.

Yes but then someone from upper Rivett Street will probably bandy on about the dangers of caffeine and someone from Jukes Place will call the police to investigate the unauthorised gathering of anti-social plotters.

Nah, I grew up in Hackett, great place to grow up but just as happy away from some of the locals…

Celebrate 50 years of complaining about aircraft noise

I was going to say maybe they could have an airforce fly over?

Most of the compliants probably revolve around the fact that there were no planes at all when the residents moved in.

The Lyneham 50th seemed to come and go back in 2008. I used to see plenty of signs at the shops, but nothing ever seemed to happen. I must have missed it I guess.

The Downer 50th Anniversary bash was a hit with the locals and past students of the school (now shut down). The best bit was the photographic exhibition – lots of hipsters from the ’60s and ’70s.

Now all we need is for Downer Shops to open – that would have been a great present for its 50th anniversary … but no such luck. What the %!@&%$! is happening with Downer Shops?

Downer shops got a mural of women harvesting opium poppies for their 50th this year.
Who knows what Hackett could get?

Or there could be a theme party based on Father Jack Hackett from Father Ted.

Are those my feet?

Dear Notmuchtosay,

You are certainly have more than notmuchtosay with this gem of post! What a fabulous idea: lets hold a ball tearer of a big 50 B-A-S-H for Canberras most memorable suburb! (isnt Hackett in Belconnen?)

But what to do? Well, knowing that Canberra loves a ‘Carnivale’, I have some suggestions to make this THE party of the millenium.

I googled Hackett and came up with a few otions for the ‘BIG 5-0’ party. We get ‘Hackett’ designer mens wear to sponsor all the fellahs (sorry ladies), Grant ‘Hackett’ would be the guest of honour (dressed in ‘Hackett’ mens wear ofcourse)…and… thats all I got when I googled Hackett.

Best of luck with it.
