Hi, I am looking for a recommendation of a decent hall in Canberra region for hire . Want to do a charity musical band program. Hall needs to have around 300 theatre style seating and good acoustics. Kitchen needed to serve food. Should have a raised big stage and preferably a green room attached. Cant afford the $1K plus places like Albert Hall, National Gallery etc 🙁 Clubs are good but they dont allow food from outside. I want people to pay and buy their food rather than me prepaying to the club ! If you know of any good community halls, school halls, clubs fitting my description pls do let me know. Even though clubs dont allow food from outside i might make it a bar open only event incase i dont find a suitable community hall or school hall. Cheers

What gendre of music? Perhaps try The Fitters Workshop, Wentworth Avenue, Kingston ACT. I haven’t been there yet but it sounds good. They don’t seem to have a website yet giving any details. The best small space in Canberra is the Wesley Music Centre, holds only 130 and max 10 on stage, has a green room, kitchenette, foyer, airconditioned, but only for classical music.

CIT Music Industry Centre at Philip has a purpose built hall with PA and lighting rig on site. Lots of parking out the front. I think it’s available for hire. It’s a good room.

The National Library have a theatre downstairs with a food area nearby but not sure of the opening times or the cost.

The National Museum would be perfect they’ve got 3 theatres greenroom kitchen and it’s right near the city. can’t remember who to contact but they have lots of movie festivals and functions, formals etc so it shouls easily be big enough to meet your needs

Universities have theatres and catering services that might be appropriate, in particular the ANU School of Music is a cool venue with a real stage. If that’s too big why not approach a music focused high school?

Not sure if it is fancy enough but the hall at the suburb at Hall can be rented at a very reasonable price. It is an old building with wooden floors and a small kitchen. I had a 50th birthday there. Cost me less than $100 to rent for 24hours. The pothole carpark is not that great though.Still worth checking out. For enquiries see the staff at Hall Rural Supplies in the main street at Hall. Good luck.

Thanks. Will check that out. 🙂
