How Hot ?

Many shoppers took advantage of the early opening hours for the February Handmade Upmarket and got out early to beat the 40 degree + heat on Saturday. Despite this and the multicultural festival drawing 1000’s it was a very successful day. Many comments were made on the quality and range of the stalls on the day. Stay posted for some pictures soon.

Competition Winners

Congratulations go to Adele who was the winner of the lucky door prize on the day.
We ended up with so many beautiful goodies for the hamper that we divided it into two. The winners are Po and Judi who were delighted when I called them.

We made $1292.85 for MND on the day, a big thank you to all the stall holders who donated the prizes and of course to everyone who bought tickets. This takes our total raised so far to an amazing $3997.85

Oh, coolness!! I’m staking my tree early! Although may drift over to Tackanalia later on …. We’ll see.

Cool music, chilled drinks and the best rice paper rolls ever!

Here at Handmade we are always up for a challenge, so 39 deg it is……. Come along and shop in the shade of the big old trees outside Albert hall. There are over 25 stalls just outside. On offer will be iced Alchmey Cordials, chilled Chai and smooth as coffee.

There are tables and chairs set up under the trees to sit and listen to the cool music from 3pm.

Check out how wonderfully cool the old hall is with it’s high ceilings and thick concrete walls, inside will be 50 stalls of the most beautiful handmade goods on offer in Canberra.

We hope to see you there!
P.S remember we are open till 6pm

There will be live music from 3pm pm on the lawns of Albert Hall.

Grab a glass of wine, great food, a chai or coffee and sit back and listen to the “pink haired girls ” they feature Paul Anderson ( ex treedad ) and Dave sparks ( rock legend ) plus the percussive talents of Susan Milligan.

They have star billing at this years cobargo folk festival, and have been invited to play guest spots at many south coast musical events.

They promise a cool laid back but dynamic mix of folk, rock & blues.

We promise a great day out!

Perhaps camoflaguing Jennie’s email address from the spammers would be an idea, or poptop’s email won’t be the only one coming her way…?

Jonathon Reynolds, whilst I can understand the US government’s want to make sure the items are safe, it certainly will kill off the ‘homemade’ market in the US. I hope things are underway in Oz to make things more reasonable.

Are you kidding? That’s practically orgasmic!!

Longer opening hours is pretty cool. So people can go straight from Gorman House Markets to Handmade.

Last time there was a stall that sold crocheted cupcakes and similar (they were out the side of the Hall). I can’t spot them on the Handmade website, do you have contact for them?

I’m looking for someone (anyone) who could make me a Sackboy (from LittleBigPlanet).

Any thoughts or leads to a creative crocheter or knitter who will consider such a commission would be welcome.

Yes Rockstars & Royalty will indeed be centre stage again along with Tango & James (Canberra’s got style queen)

Here’s a link to a recent Ninaribena blog entry offering a sneak preview of her preparations for the upcoming Handmade Market on Feb 7.

Handmademarket6:39 pm 12 Jan 09

Mmmmmmm

Well that’s taken the fun out of it all!!

Lets hope it takes a while and that common sense prevails with both parliament and product safety.

Jonathon Reynolds6:28 pm 12 Jan 09

But how long will it be until somebody in either in the local Assembly or Federal Parliament attempts to introduce protective legislation such as what they are proposing in the US?

An interesting read…

Good job, Market Girl! Sounds like just the kind of day to order!!

: )

Handmademarket6:07 pm 12 Jan 09

You ladies are going to keep me busy here!!

So, I have ordered a 26 deg day, slight breeze, glorious sunshine all day.

The last market was the very first of many so as you can imagine lots of designers also waited to see what it was going to be like. The feb market has approx 25 new designers, some never seen in Canberra before at a market.

Yes Rockstars & Royalty will indeed be centre stage again along with Tango & James (Canberra’s got style queen)

Now as for space, a very clever person came up with a brilliant new floor plane that will not only allow more clever designers but WIDER isles for all you wonderful customers. Outdoors will be under the trees in the shade. There will hopefully be some live music in the afternoon, great food & wine so bring a picnic blanket and soak up the atmosphere.

Cheers
Market Girl

Yes, here’s the Canberra’s Got Style review of Rockstars and Royalty. It’s not every day you come across somebody making Victorian gowns in this day and age.

A dry day would definitely be preferable. I wonder what they intend to do about the space issue?

It was too small last time and they’ve got MORE retailers!!

Better put in an order for a dry day this time.

I hope they have the corsetry and Rock Star(?) photography people again. They were ruly interesting.

Where ?

Having never been to one nor heard about it, the location would be quite usefull information.

Where?

Still the Albert Hall?
