Hey Guys.

I was hoping somebody might be able to help my partner and I find some more trivia nights in Canberra?

We already go to the fabulous Trivia in the Trams at the Dickson Tradies on Monday nights and would like to find a few more regular nights to attend.

Go easy on me, I’m a newbie.

Go and tell them how to operate the cross bench . . .

Holy Grail in Kingston has a pretty packed one each Tuesday.

I should think not, Jim Jones!

*cough cough*

Well, hopefully I won’t have to book in advance for my tram spot next week …. Thanks a lot, Disposable!!

*chuckle*

You are not from the dreaded “Profound Beauty” / “Table 38” team of annihilation are you?

“yuppie-bogan-types”

I think the phrase you’re looking for is “cubbie” (Cashed Up Bogan).

There are a lot of jokes about tramp stamps, all of which are too crude to relay here.

The Mawson club is full of (for lack of a better derogatory term) yuppie-bogan-types, which is a shame because the club itself has a lot going for it. Don’t ask me where they all come from. All I know is they love two things:

1. tattoos (aka “tramp stamps”)

and

2. shopping at Parliament.

What I wouldn’t give for a suburban bar with a touch of class about it in the Woden/Tuggers district. I won’t be holding my breath.

Anthony is very subtle and most of what he does is read the questions – he doesn’t crack needless jokes or wait, foaming at the mouth, for laughs. The crowd at the Mawson provides a lot of their own humour, through their team names and responses to Anthony after a few drinks. (or maybe it’s just my crowd)

The Mawson itself has been going downhill lately though… I used to go every week 2 years – 18 months ago, but my recent trips have been disappointing. The snack menu has been further pared down to contain only chips and wedges and a few other overpriced dishes, the drinks list has been changed and the service is appalling (and the staff used to be all so good looking!! Now, not so much.) Plus, you can’t just rock up and get your mate to sign you in anymore – you must join the club for $5.00.

fnaah @ #4 : Mr Anthony Ackroyd funny? Methinks not! only so many jokes one (past adolescence) can find amusing about ‘clams’ and ‘fish’…

Not to forget his ravishing barrel girl ….

; )

Yep, Overhead does run a good trivia night. There’s a decent trivia down at Southern Cross Club in Tuggeranong – but the questions are off the shelf.

Thursday evening at Olims.

And did you know that ‘Show me the money’ is a catch-cry from that famous Tom Cruise film: “Eddy McGuire’?

Okay, that’s it, Overheard! Shut up!! Just shut up I tell you! How embarrassment!

*chuckle*

Eastlake football club in Kingston has one every Thursday night starts at 7.30 has only been going for a few months but each week seems to be getting bigger.

Wednesday nights @ Italio-Australian Club Forrest and Thursday nights @ McKellar Wests – both serve meals if you like to eat dinner while exercising your brain and I think both start around the 7pm mark.

I’ve been to most of them – unforunately none are particularly good. The “comedy” trivia concept at the Mawson has always intruigued me though. Maybe I’ve gotten Anthony on a bad night but I’m yet to witness the “comedy” componenet of the night.

It’s probably bad karma to cast nasturtiums on others in the trade, but on the one of these nights I attended, my group also struggled to identify the ‘comedy’ element. There wasn’t much to laugh at, just the sound of crickets between questions and we left in the first break.

We have a lot of fun on Mondays in the Trams, but that’s mostly from tapping into the creativity and ingenuity of the audience. It will be a long time before I get the scenes from last night of those heavy metal air guitar performances out of my head! And did you know that ‘Show me the money’ is a catch-cry from that famous Tom Cruise film: “Eddy McGuire’?

Next week from 7pm-ish for anyone who wants to join in. Special subject (groan): Impersonations.

Thanks for all the help guys, looks like we are going to be busy!

Turner Bowls trivia finished a few months back when Wests went belly up. I think Sthn Cross are going to restart it in the new year.

Tony Delroy does one every night, Monday-Friday. Free entry, starts just after midnight on local ABC radio. :p

Pot Belly Trivia – tonight and every Tuesday night.

Comedy trivia with Anthony Ackroyd at the Mawson Club, thursdays from 8ish.

Note that the trivia questions are not *about* comedy, it’s just that they’re delivered in Mr Ackroyd’s inimitable comedic style. A thoroughly enjoyable evening.

Sorry, Disposable, but you won’t find Trivia like Overheard does it anywhere!

*chuckle*

A friend of mine swears that the trivia night at the Queanbeyan Leagues Club [7:30pm every Tuesday night] is worth the trip.

PJ O’Reilleys on Wednesday nights. Turner Bowls used to do it on Thursdays, not sure if they still do.
