Ickle Pickle Productions, celebrating five years of holiday productions in Canberra, returns to Belconnen Theatre in January with another fun-filled pantomime – Hansel & Gretel.

From the writing/directing team behind Goldilocks, Red Riding Hood and Ali Baba & the Forty Thieves, this new production of the classic fairytale continues Ickle Pickle’s commitment to bringing fresh and original productions to Canberra audiences. With a cast of more than thirty talented performers, and suitable for all ages, Hansel & Gretel is fantastic holiday fun for all the family.

Hansel and Gretel are abandoned in a forest by their incredibly poor parents. There they meet a seemingly kind old lady, who offers them something to eat. Little do Hansel and Gretel know that the sweet old lady is actually a wicked witch, who dreams of winning Masterchef by creating a recipe that might just include the children!

Saw this today – it was great!! I came in to recommend it, but today was the last day 🙁

The kids were fantastic (Hansel was a boy today, and Gretel a younger girl – they were both excellent).

The sets were great, the ensemble songs were crowd pleasers (the young kids were all silent though the songs), the kids were all cute and happy, and it was enjoyable for both adults and kids.

Maybe a bit too much dialogue, but it never went for too long before another song or dance.

More please!
Better than a disney movie any day.
