Happy New Year to everyone. Hope everyone had a blast last night, or at least that nothing disasterous happened. I usually find that New Years Eve has a lot of hype and expectation but at the end you’ve stayed up far too late, had too much warm champagne and finished it off by waiting over an hour for a taxi. But I’m already looking forward to the next one which will be even better.

I’m just going to say this once. There is NOT a taxi shortage in Canberra. There is a DRIVER shortage.
And who can blame people for not wanting to drive cabs. Crap money, rude customers.
And at this time of year,,yes,,even the humble taxi driver likes to take a holiday too.
Happy New Year!!

We had friends come down from Sydney. Drank champers and some beers, let the kids run wild and tried to dance to the nutbush. Very silly all round but more fun than waiting for a taxi surrounded by drunken teenagers.

I had a blast out in the city, stayed at King O Malleys till around 12.30 before heading to the Casino which was a bit quiet, but everyone seemed to be having a good time, and there was a great atmosphere all night. Being its the first time I;ve actually gone into the city for New Years, I had a blast. I will be out and about in the city for next years new years for sure.

A reason for city-wide fireworks in your own home on New Years.
They look quite pretty, and the only drunken 14-16 year olds are your own.

The City was a disgrace. Hardly any coffee shops or restaurants open. By midnight there were mainly drunk 14-16 year olds running amuck.

Fireworks were pretty good though – must be an election year.

Canberra sucks for New Years…next year I am going somewhere else.

I was in Wagga, where it was so hot during the day that the bitumen roads were melting, and then drank until 3am when the pubs had to stop serving. It still took an hour to wait for a taxi, so at least taxi shortages aren’t just a Canberra problem.

Stayed at home – got pissed – in bed by 12.30pm!

And may the bloggers and contributers be a year wiser in 2008. Hmmm … likely?
