The Canberra Times have the astonishing news that the United Kingdom is closing their heavily trafficked Australian passport office and in future if you want a passport (and are already a UK citizen as many of us are) you’ll have to mail your details to Wellington.

Wellington in New Zealand.

Why even bother having a high commission if it’s not going to do basic consular service?

And why bother posting your life’s details across the Tasman instead of going direct to the home office in London?

Dear God, have we sunk so low?

Thankfully my passport was renewed only two years ago, and hopefully my next one will be an Australian one.

(You can call me “Aussie Bastard” then!)

^They need something to do over there.

WTF?? I thought this was a joke post at first. Why Wellington of all places, I wonder.
