The ABC has a story on John Hargreaves “getting tough” with Canberra Cabs by giving them another three months before he does, er… something.

For god’s sake give us a choice with competition and let the people of Canberra take out their own revenge.

UPDATED: Steve Pratt thinks Hargreaves is being too tough on the monopolists and wants John Hargreaves to sit down and talk with them.

There’s also the issue of proving non-compliance.

“saying something to effect of a $500 penalty per month for each breach of a new standards document”.

I can see Aerial being pretty happy with this arrangement – it would be cheaper than fixing their problems!

bloody oath!

I’m sure John will be happy to sit down with Canberra Cabs’ management and discuss the problems over a case of beer or five.

late night win news last night had him saying something to effect of a $500 penalty per month for each breach of a new standards document ?

This Minister has a penchant for saying stupid things. He suffers from gross overconfidence combined with a lack of ability. Who can forget his nasty barb after facing the press on his DUI charge. As he left the interview he made a snide remark about Aerial taxis. Given his role as a Minister that wasn’t smart. Calling a political opponent a dickhead does not represent clever repartee. His non-announcement on our taxi service dressed up as policy is a joke. Par for the course for this second-rater.

Hargraves should be vewy vewy quiet about transport issues at the moment. He should count himself extremely lucky a taxi isnt his only mode of transport for a few months

Perhaps we need a way of linking the number of new taxi plates to service standards. That way, when the current bunch of penis-biters screw up, they have noone to blame but themselves. I will be there: laughing, laughing.

He needs to have the nerve to release another 300 plates and devalue all existing ones so there is no longer a reason to own plates and lease them to an owner of an actual taxi. The problem is simply too many middle men trying to make money and using lobbying to protect their interest. All to the detriment of someone who would actuually like to catch a taxi occassionally

Did he at least swear at them? ’cause he seems to do that with everyone else…

yes competition would be good.

Maybe he’s too pissed to be bothered doing anything?
