Hargreaves v. Hanson - Interesting? Or handbags at 10 paces?

This week’s CityNews features a big free kick to the Liberal’s Jeremy Hanson and shows up a lot of personal animosity between Hanson and Labor’s John Hargreaves.

Is this the sort of thing you expect from your local politicians?

Or would you like a bit more thought and substance?

Having met Hargreaves a number of times in an official capacity I can say he is an uncouth, loud mouthed wanker.

Thumper, a Labor politician who is an uncouth, loud mouth wanker….? Reminds me of our highly esteemed PM.

I agree Amanda Bresnan is a star. I was also pleasantly surprised at Steve Doszpot’s recent kindness towards a woman who has been in hospital for an extended period, who he visits without fuss from time to time.

I am still amazed that he was voted back in.

And before anyone accuses me of being a Liberal stooge i’ll add that I’ve met Simon Corbell a number of times as well and found him to be a generally nice and decent person.

Due to my involvement in an issue of some interest here in the ACT, I’ve recently met with several MLA’s from all camps (i.e Labour, Liberal and the Greens). I’ve found Simon Corbell, Amanda Bresnan, Meredith Hunter and Brendan Smyth all to be exceptional and dedicated people. I’ve not met Hargreaves or Hanson yet but as I’ve said above, I’m yet to be impressed by either. For mine, and as I’ve said before, Steve Doszpot has proven to be pure gold. Not only is he an advocate for the causes I’m currently involved in, he actually cares about people and he works behind the scenes to help Canberran’s. And all without going to the press advertising his good deeds. I’ve met Jon Stanhope and Mary Porter in a personal capacity too and I have no problem with either of them.

Hargreaves and Hanson certainly have a lot to learn.

I’m with Thumper. How this man gets voted in eludes me but I guess unless you have met him or been somewhere where you have heard him speak, you wouldn’t know the make of the man. And I vote Labor.

I’m more concerned about how friendly politicians from various parties are towards each other.

It’s just a game mate, after all we’re on the same great salaries, perks and pension plans and we take turns. We should think of ourselves as colleagues. It’s really just a game and any of that ideology stuff is for the voters and the party hacks. Coming for a beer?

Not a chance. Some real seething goes on behind the walls of the Assmebly. No love lost on either side.

Jeremy Hanson had accused Corrections Minister John Hargreaves of leaving the Attorney General Simon Corbell in the lurch by being overseas at the time of the Belconnen Remand Centre breakout that saw two prisoners stage a sit in on the centre’s roof..

Is this liberal oaf really suggesting that Hargreaves should be a permanent fixture in Canberra, in situ proprius, in case some miscreants break out onto the roof?

What have either Hargraves or Hanson done of any merit? Anybody..? Anybody…?

And yes JB, I’d prefer thought and substance.

Hargreaves needs to remember that being a politician is more than just making insulting comments about the opposition (he should focus on getting his portfolio sorted out, for instance) and Hanson should be careful about calling any Minster ‘unfit’ before he himself has filled such a role. He’s hardly set the world alight to date.

This is actually more than I expect from any politician. I have very low expectations.

Hargreaves doesn’t think before he engages his mouth (and his liver apparently). He deserves everything he gets. He seems like the sort of bloke who should count himself lucky he gobs off in a political context, as he would be sat on his ass many times if he spoke that way to Joe Citizen
