A 35-year-old Harrison man is assisting police with enquires in relation to the hit-run collision which occurred in Braddon at the weekend.
Police were called to Henty Street, Braddon around 5.30am on Sunday morning after it was reported that a white traytop utility had struck two pedestrians walking on the roadway, and then had driven away.
The pedestrians, both 19-year-old men, were urgently conveyed to The Canberra Hospital. One of the men is in a serious condition with head injuries.
Acting Sergeant of Collision Investigation and Reconstruction Team Graeme Cooper thanked the assistance provided by the media in widely publicising the incident.
“It helps police, and it helps the families involved to know we have information coming forward and investigations are continuing,” Acting Sergeant Cooper said.
“It’s important to remember however that this man is only a suspect at this stage and I urge the public, particularly those active in social media, to be cautious in pre-judging this man,” he said.
A white utility has been identified and is undergoing forensic analysis.
