I was called yesterday and asked to complete a government survey on Manuka Oval and Canberra Stadium, now as I am a sporting fan I was happy to provide my views and found the survey quite interesting.

Many of the questions were loaded towards a particular response (as per most surveys) and I found the “What sports have you watched at Canberra Stadium in the past 3 years, options Cricket, AFL and Rugby?” hilarious considering the ground is not figured to AFL and Cricket. So I guess my answer would be Rugby? I was not even asked if that was Rugby League or Rugby Union ….. poor Soccer didn’t even get a mention, which I found strange considering the Socceroos played there only a few months ago.

The question “Do you think Canberra people like sports?” was more loaded than “chick chick boom” YES, and we would love sports much more if we had an indoor stadium and didn’t have to sit in the freezing cold wind/rain mid football season. People would much rather be talking about how good the Brumbies, Raiders, the new Soccer/AFL teams games were at ‘THE DOME’ on the weekend than a ‘whine and crackers’ over every little issue that pops up in this city. Lets do something positive.

If you build it, they will come ……

I would like to thank those responsible for allowing me to have a small say in the future of Canberra and I hope many others also get to contribute to the survey.

1995 Fitzroy V West Coast.

A stadium with a roof so that you don’t have to watch football in subzero temperatures… what a novel idea.

The last AFL game I can remember at Bruce was 1995. There has been cricket played there in the past too but definitely nothing recently.
