Has anyone seen Olivia?

Steve Tucker [Steve Tucker and friend courtesy of Facebook.]

We’re given to understand the below email was sent to the entire staff of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC).

We can only hope Steve finds his girl.

UPDATE:

SAVE STEVE!

Word reaches us that Steve has been sacked! If you’d like DIAC to reconsider this harsh decision the best contact I can find is here.

Should DIAC have mercy on Steve?

Further Update: We’re still waiting for a response to our media enquiry to DIAC. But we can show you Steve’s Facebook profile in which he seems cooler than many of you might have thought.

(If either Steve or Olivia would like to talk on-record about their experience please email john@the-riotact.com )

Another Update: A spokesperson for DIAC has been in touch to assure us that no one is going to sack Steve. Also, if you’re so inclined, Facebook now has a Steve Tucker Appreciation Society.

OMG UPDATE: The poll has hit new records for us (and bear in mind our spam excluders stop huge numbers of people from voting) and the terrifying women of maternal.com.au are treating this as the essential reference.

Also the SMH’s Ben Grubb is quoting you buggers.

This whole story is now second for this site to Mount Monaghan, which frankly makes me very sad.

The Email:

Good Morning Everyone,

There is a person that works here at DIAC, who has a housemate by the name of “Olivia”.

This message is for you.

Olivia is tall and olive skinned. She moved to Canberra from Sydney last February to work in the Public Service.

Briefly, I met Olivia on the Saturday night just passed. She left a strong and positive impression on me. Unfortunately, people got in the way after we met and I didn’t get to finish our meeting how I wanted to. This has been bugging me ever since.

If you can kindly let Olivia know that I would like to get in contact with her or alternatively get in touch with myself, I will be very appreciative.

Disclaimer: I understand this is not the most appropriate channel. It is not my intent to misuse this email address.

I have struggled to write and send this message. It has taken all of my willpower to do so.

Life is too short for regret. This phrase I know you all can identify with.

Have an awesome Monday.

….and half the public service by now, if my Department is anything to go by. It’s the topic du jour.

It’s not got quite the same awwww factor as NYgirlofmydreams, but good luck to Steve and his goals for a bit of boogie. I wonder if Olivia has posted a notice at her workplace, too.

Could you at least remove his personal particulars such as his email and phone number?

    It’s something I gave some thought to and can see the argument.

    In the end it’s already been massively circulated as is, AND Olivia has to be able to get in touch with him somehow.

I just read this email, the sender must take me for a sucker
Some guy is chasing the delightfully olive Olivia
He sent out a Department wide email disguised as trivia
C’mon, just come out and admit it Steve Tucker
All you really want to do to Olivia is…

Canberra is small so he should be able to find her, unless she lied about where she worked. I would love to hear how this turned out.

certainly did get a few chuckles on the floors this morning when it hit our in-boxes.

Steve can look forward to a nice long counselling session on how not to use a Government email account. Good luck to him (though I’d be kinda freaked if I was Olivia).

Don’t think Steve needed to go this far…if I girl likes you and wants to find you she WILL (the social networks of women are more powerful at targeting what they want than a zombie virus botnet).

I wonder how many levels of sh*t Mr Tucker is going to find himself in for breaching Departmental email policies…

Chaz Chaz 1:39 pm 15 Nov 10

his best option: “alternatively get in touch with myself”

These people possibly being Bouncers?

Poor Olivia, eventually ending up married to her stalker due to social pressures…

Also:
‘…let Olivia know that I would like to…alternatively get in touch with myself…’
He wants to do what to himself?

I would love to know how many email responses he is getting today. Lol.

You see that flash of light in the corner of your eye? That’s your career dissipation light. It just went into high gear.

Sooo, in order to sack this chick he got the sack. Shame, it takes a big sack to do what he did.

And if she’s not interested, it’ll really sack.

sometimes it is a good idea to listen to the voices one hears inside one’s head. Particularly when that voice asks ‘should I really send this all staff email?’ or ‘should I really encourage that dog to felate me?’

Get drunk on the weekend and meet a girl…
Email everyone in your department on Monday morning…
Dole queue Monday afternoon…

RE: Steve being sacked:
There’s most likely a great big section of his IT Code of Conduct that came up every time he logged onto the network that either explicitly mentioned (but glossed over) or simply cross-referenced something to the effect of the below:

…Contraventions of ICT Code of Conduct may result in sanctions and penalties under Cybercrime Act 2001, section 41 (Misapplication or improper use of public
property) of Financial Management and Accountability Act 1997, Crimes Act 1914 and/or Criminal Code Commonwealth.
Further, if a determination is made that a breach of the APS Code of Conduct has occurred, a sanction may be imposed pursuant to subsection 15(1) of the Public Service Act 1999. Those sanctions include:
· Reprimand;
· Deduction from salary by way of fine;
· Reduction in salary;
· Re-assignment of duties;
· Reduction in classification; and/or
· Termination of employment.

Feel free to fight for him, but I don’t like Steve’s chances.

sacked? i’d just hoped mr tucker is receiving remedial grammar courses…

he should have also considered contingencies and put an alternative contact – i mean, how is the lovely ‘livia going to get in touch with myself now?

I thought Olivia sounded quite nice.
