Have you got spare lego? RiotACT needs it for the election Candidate Challenges!

Having put this election’s candidate challenge out to the hive mind we rejected the homicidal and the cruel and found an idea we really liked.

How about their vision of Canberra built in Lego blocks

So that’s what we’re going with. Candidates will get a big bag of lego and three hours. Then they get five minutes to showcase what they have wrought and we make a video of the whole thing.

If a candidate wants to build a dinosaur or a spaceship instead that’s their perogative.

The big problem is here in The Eagle’s Nest our cruel mothers long ago sent our treasured lego off to other homes.

Which means now it’s time for the karmic lego wheel to turn again.

So if you’ve got some lego kicking around the house which the kids have grown past (or a more understanding mother) now would be an excellent time to make a donation. At the end of the challenge we’ll find a suitable charity to donate them to AND we’ll run a credit block of all our lego donors in the write up of each challenge. Fame through lego donation!

Now if candidates are thinking they’ll need specific sorts of lego to complete their vision (looking at you pirates) we’d encourage them to donate the sets they want to work with. But bear in mind the common block set will be available to all candidates.

So if you can help be a part of history email john@the-riotact.com .

(Oh and if you can pass this around your networks we’d really appreciate it)

Well so far the candidates have brought in lots of vehicles and some civic buildings but I sure hope someone comes up with some green bases, trees and perhaps lego people (since people do live here) or they are going to build some mighty sterile visions of Canberra. Just a hint!

“The big problem is here in The Eagle’s Nest our cruel mothers long ago sent our treasured lego off to other homes.”

Poor little petals.

Your mothers are lying to you.

We never sent your lego off to other homes. The Mothers’ rule of Lego is that every time we step on a piece of Lego in bare feet we throw it in the bin.

All your Lego are belong to the tip, now and forever.

3 hours isn’t long in the world of Lego creation, especially to a bunch of politicians more akin to using their mouths rather than their hands.

I have some spare legos if that helps.

Not sure how pasta sauce fits into the challenge?

Drop us a line Mike!

Cool. Looking forward to it!

mixing multiple loads of lego and then returning them is a job we’re not real keen on. First major donation in today (we’ll run a story tomorow).

Would wonder what Candidates actually have their own sets.
Where does all the lego go once its used, public art or futher training for ministers 🙂

I still prefer the Action Goose Chase. It would be more likely to give us an improvement for our community.

But I will happily support the chosen challenge. I think I can get some Lego for the challenge. Looks like some fun. Has been organised? If not, how about a school on a weekend (or in holidays if it can be organised in time). Have a kid or two from that school, build their vision and see if the pollies can outdo the kids.

We should donate the leftovers to charity. Kids who usually get socks, pens, pencils and a chocolate bar for Christmas from charity could get some Lego instead. (Not trying to say the others aren’t needed, just that a luxury instead of a necessity might be well appreciated).

Perhaps there would be more takers if it were for RiotACT to borrow the Lego? Some of us AFOLs have a veritable s-load, but donation is off the table, sorry!

Will The RiotACT then turn the bricks into a piece of public art and flog it to the government for an obscene amount?

we’ll leave that to whatever charity or non-profit takes them off our hands.

There is no such thing as ‘spare lego’…! ;P

there is, however, lego that has ceased to be played with regularly.

No bringing your own, but we’d encourage candidates to donate to the effort.

maybe they haven’t finished playing with it yet?

Try http://www.brickexpo.com.au/

I suspect they’d come to some agreement in return for some promotion space.

Surely Alastair Coe and Johnathan Davis will bring their own?

No bringing your own, but we’d encourage candidates to donate to the effort.

Are you sure that Lego is not advanced for these guys? Maybe MegaBloks as used by the under three age group would be better?

Because we want real lego!

(but if we don’t get enough blocks virtual lego might have to do)
