An 18-year-old Latham man will face court this morning (Thursday December 9) charged with two counts of drink driving and one count of driving while licence suspended, after police stopped him twice in two hours in the early hours of this morning.
Around 3am members of Belconnen Patrol conducted a traffic stop on a green Mitsubishi Lancer on Aikman Drive in Belconnen. The driver underwent a breath screening which returned a positive result.
The driver was taken to Belconnen Police Station where he returned a reading of 0.160. As the 18-year-old is a provisional licence holder and subject to a 0.00 limit, under the new legislation his licence was seized and his right to drive suspended for 90 days. He was informed he would be summonsed for the offence and offered a lift home due to the heavy rain, however the offer was declined.
Around 5am members of Belconnen Patrol again conducted a traffic stop on the same green coloured Mitsubishi Lancer on Emu Bank in Belconnen. The same male person was identified as being the driver and returned a positive screening result.
The driver was again taken back to Belconnen Police Station for breath analysis and returned a reading of 0.106.
The P-plate driver was arrested and taken to the ACT Regional Watch House where he has been charged and will face the ACT Magistrate’s Court this morning.
