After rave reviews from a friend who had a birthday dinner there, I have come to Dickson to try a burger at Hello Harry.
Hello Harry is a burger franchise established by (you’ll never guess) a bloke called Harry in Maroochydore in 2014. Priding itself on housemade sauces, patties and brioche buns made exclusively for its burgers, Hello Harry has blossomed into 15 burger joints across the country.
“Everything is housemade in-store – not prepackaged,” says Dickson franchisee Chai.
“We marinate all the chicken, pulled pork and brisket right here in housemade sauces. The brisket cooks overnight for over eight hours. We have vegan options, and here at Dickson, wraps are featured on the menu. I can assure coeliac and vegan diners that we prepare the food separately so there is no cross-contamination.”
Narrowing your choice down to just one burger is a dilemma because the burgers all look and sound scrumptious.
With 13 sections in their online menu, you can select a chicken, beef, alternative or pulled meat burger. The Hello Harry salad comes with green goddess dressing, and you can add meat or roasted veggies.
If the hunger is strong within you, head straight to the ‘Serious about burgers’ drop-down menu where you can choose from overstuffed burgers like the ‘Pitt Master’, brimming with brisket, pulled pork, double cheese, caramelised onion, mixed slaw, chipotle mayo and BBQ glaze.
In the alternative drop-down range, the veggie lover sounds wonderful with grilled mushroom, pumpkin, red pepper relish, caramelised onion, cos lettuce and mayo.
While I have never been a huge fan of chicken burgers, Hello Harry’s chicken burger range sounds and looks so good. Plump, juicy chicken burgers that are crisp and battered on the outside, promising tenderness within.
Hello Harry can swap out any burger with a plant-based patty or gluten-free bun.
I couldn’t resist the lure of maple bacon, so I ordered the not-oversized maple bacon burger.
It arrives skewered to the plate by a knife. A glossy glimpse of bacon enticingly dangles out of the burger, and I pull a bit off to taste. Oh my goodness, this is my favourite version of maple bacon so far! The maple has crisped and caramelised perfectly into the bacon. The pickles are sweet and tangy, and the bun is a perfect, tender yet sturdy vehicle for all the fillings. After experiencing a burger in a brioche bun, there has been no going back for me. Hello Harry toasts its buns in clarified butter, which I think adds an extra pop.
The seasoned beef is delicious and covered in melty cheese, but in this burger, it takes a back seat to that glorious maple bacon.
After I finish, I am sporting a burger sauce moustache, a combination of mayo, mustard, and house tomato jam and my fingers are sticky from the bacon. So it passes the burger test for sure!
