Help! Non-hipster wedding photography needed

We’re looking for a wedding photographer. We looked at the responses to this post from 2012, and scanned the websites of the photographers referred to and many others. It seems there is a strong prevalence of a particular kind of wedding photography. It’s either contrived, or has gone right through contrived and come out the other side (hipsterland).

See for yourselves, Rioters!

She and I think we want a non-arthouse, beautifully executed record of the ceremony taking place and, afterwards, of who was there looking their best. There will be no:

  • jumping in the air
  • standing blankly amid Architecture
  • riding chairlifts
  • obscuring faces with bouquets
  • urban landscapes
  • bridal accoutrements perched in unlikely places
  • torsos without heads

Any recommendations?

A real trained and experienced photographer can do whatever style you would like.

If they are not trained, which is more important than the style, they will be very likely to use the wrong lens, i.e. a wide angle and not a portrait lens and you will not like the way you look but will not know why.

Everyone says that are photographer these days but the reality is they are not and they don’t know what they don’t know.

I’m happy to walk you through this if you like, don’t fall for the pretty website photos.

It might be too late, but could recommend you looking at Mel Hill from http://www.melhillphotography.com – really classic images which should stand the test of time?

While I’m not a big fan of your self promotion, I will say you take some absolutely fantastic photos. Wow!

Love the skywhale photos!

Hardly self promotion “just a normal photographer”.
Lighten up, if he takes good photographs, your evidence, then why can’t he tell people about it. Just offering to help out.

I’m getting married in January and I’m using Emma Hampton photography. She is fantastic and relatively new to starting her own photography business so her prices aren’t high AT ALL.
Have a look at her facebook page http://www.facebook.com/EmmaHamptonPhotography

+1 for twocollins – great photos.

I think we need some Commonwealth-funded ANU research on the correlation between hipster/trendoid/fashion victim wedding pics and the survival rate of marriages.

Can you also ask them if they did a “trash the dress’ glamour session?

Only on the Riot Act could tacky, bogan-esk wedding photography trends be referred to as ‘hipster’.

Do you refer to Facebook wedding albums & glamour photos as hipster, too?

You forgot photos of babies in flowerpots as the latest ‘hipster’ trend.

http://www.luxandlens.com – a great couple who captured great moments of both my Mum and sister’s weddings. Stunning, personal and intimate photos of the couple and the guests sharing the day. And they are just a really nice funny couple.

+1 for Jeremy. Top bloke too.

I’m not sure if her stuff qualifies as ‘hipster’ or not. Judge for yourself I guess. She’s a mum who does photography on the side and i believe her prices are very reasonable.

Eek. Antihipster is worse than hipster. Those are shockers!

I’m sure any professional photographer would be entirely happy to take whatever kind of boring photos you want them too, as long as you don’t go calling them hipsters to their face.

So do hipsters not like being called hipsters anymore? Maybe it’s too mainstream.

A very good (ex-Canberran) photographer is Jeremy Beasley. His approach is photojournalistic, meaning no cheesy posed shots – so if you want a “beautifully executed record of the ceremony taking place” you might want to check him out.

“Hipster” has lost all meaning for me these days. He’s not at all pretentious, if that’s what you mean 🙂

And a well respected photographer at that, highly recommended.

IN B4 TEH WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY DEFENCE FORCE.

Finding a wedding photographer that suits the style of photos that you are after is possibly the biggest hurdle.
Secondly you need to find someone that you and your partner are comfortable working with. For almost everyone, their wedding is the first time they will be in front of the camera so it is important to be as relaxed as possible.
If you like our style then we’re more than happy to hear from you: http://twocollins.com.au/wp/
