Help us raise money for a second mobile humidicrib - all you need to do is vote

Greetings fellow Canberrans,

Just a short plea to ask any and all who are interested to cast a vote for our images in the Canon “Creative for a Cause” competition.

The winning entry recieves $60,000 for the charity of their choice. We have nominated the Newborn Intensive Care Foundation (the charity arm of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Canberra Hospital). You may be aware from recent radio and TV campaigns that they are raising money for a second mobile humidicrib for the regions premature and critically ill babies. This money would be a decent chunk towards that end.

My son was born a month premature in January this year, and became seriously ill by the time he was a week old. Without the neonatal intensive care unit and that mobile humidicrib, he’d have been in serious trouble.

Hoping you’ll all have the time to vote. Voting closes on July 10th. I’ll include the URLs below.

Cheers, and apologies if my plug here was too shameless 🙂

Lots of very good causes attached to the photos. Personally I think the vote should be for the photo. If you support the Newborn Intensive Care Foundation make a cash donation. A lousy way to win a photography competition!

The photo is also pretty wonderful Mono; and this is, after all, a competition that is designed to raise money for charity (rather than being a photo comp in the traditional sense). I’ve voted!

Yes, I was wrong to make the last comment. I did look at the photos in the Medical and Health category but didn’t bother to read the rules, specifically that the votes led to a selection of photos going into a final round and that although one could only vote once for a particular photo there was no limit to how many photos you could vote for which allowed you to chose in the other categories as well.

Assuming you had time to look at thousands of photos.

I voted.

I strongly believe the ACT govt should be purchasing items such as this rather than public art and arboretums. The community shouldn’t have to fundraise for livesaving equipment.

I’m sure that the govt is acutely aware that if they purchase such an item then they also have the onus of staffing it appropriately. If someone else buys it for them, then they can always shrug their shoulders if it happens to lie idle due to lack appropriately trained personnel…

Many thanks for the support everyone.

I agree, the ACT Government should have bought the transporter cot before forking out for that windmill thing on Yamba Drive.

I have voted also. Good luck!

My wallet is always open for things like this. Children are the future and deserve the same gift of life that we all have. Robyn, I will spare what I can.

Of course I am not criticising the cause per se, just the TV ad. If they replace the ad with one which omits the Twinkle Twinkle Little Star song I will be the first to donate.

Have put my vote in.

But it does make me angry that the community has to beg for these sort of things.

I couldn’t agree more.

Not a shameless plug at all. Trunking symbols is being a bit of a grinch. Anything to help premature babies is a good thing in my opinion. I agree with Nemo that this should be a priority for the government – sometimes their priorities seem very out of whack. Hope you win!

Trunking Symbols – I haven’t seen the ‘offensive’ ad but I think you are confusing the means with the message.

I was born 3 months premature in the mid-1970s and spent the next 3 months or so in a humidicrib, fighting for survival. Fortunately I was in a big city so facilities weren’t too much of a problem. Unfortunately, plenty of places in Australia don’t have ready access to such facilities.

PS – you vote in the photo comp for free (I just did). You can keep your hands in your pockets if you like.

Up to the individual…. But would appreciate your click just the same 🙂

As long as you people affront us with that rotten, offensive “Twinkle twinkle little star” TV ad, I for one will keep my wallet well and truly shut.
