SO…. I need YOU to help me with some ideas.

I am jetting off OS shortly and I am organising a little get together for the friends and family before I go.

I thought Weston park would be a great family friendly – everyone welcome type facility but am having trouble thinking of a good wet weather alternative or at least somewhere with some cover.

This is where you come in.

Any ideas?

possibly, but so is the weston park undercover area. I have heard of a guy who is seen watching little kids play down near the pond / bridge area, with a sad face. Apparently, a little kid is supposed to have been knocked down and drowned there. the guy who watches is his father, who took his own life.

ah! really? boy thats creepy! i never heard that story before.

you do realise im now going to be sitting there the whole day watching to see if a ghost appears. actually i might just tell all the kiddies that and creep them out! mwwwaahahahaaha

And on that jolly party note … *chuckle*

um… i don’ know. 40 at the most. if it absolutely pours on the day, i may be forced to admit defeat, it’s just nice to know theres something to run and hide beneath if the gods are against me and the rain starts to kick in while were there.

and yes peter the kambah woolshed has been picked as the back up venue, good suggestion!

How many people will you have at this shindig? Getting a decent undercover area for a large crowd may be a bit tricky unless you’re willing to give a car park a try!

or the kambah woolshed!!

yes Lennox Gardens has a few covered bits, but is a bit small. I’ve been doing the google thing to try and suss out a few places, but it’s not really helping me out much. but thanks for all the tips guys! i’ll have to go for a proper drive around on the weekend and suss out all the shelters. I just had no idea where to start really.

Oh, there’s another spot with a covered gazebo like thingy on the City side of the lake. Park off Consitution Ave, across the road from the CIT restaurant, and take the pedestrian underpass under Parkes Way and you should find the way.

I think Lennox Gardens behind the Hyatt has undercover areas near the free BBQs.

I think Black Mountain Peninsula has sheltered spots. Been a while since last there and memory ain’t what it used to be.

Kingston foreshore development has a bbq area and I’m certain they have sheltered areas.

Google sat maps would be the way to go, shelters should show up as visable.

Yarralumla woolshed has a bunch.

hahaha! yes! what a befitting way to say good bye to canberra, sitting under commonwealth bridge eating my sausage sandwich getting pooed on by the pigeons. excellent!

Thanks for mentioning the undercover areas of weston park, I havent been there for a number of years and hadn’t realised they had under cover bits. I think the plan might be to stake them out early just in case.

then again, you could set up on the roads that run under Commonwealth Ave Bridge 🙂

Weston Park, near the mini-railway (down to the right), has a couple of large, covered areas

Southern Cross Yacht Club – plenty of grassy areas and if the weather turns nasty head indoors to the club

at a pinch, the kambah woolshed is a good undercover site, there have been quite a few birthday parties being held there recently, and not an overly large amount of big kids, mainly families.

Cotter campgrounds, cotter reserve, casurina sands – these all have undercover areas.

picnic spots with cover? none that i can think of but its been a while since i went picnic..um…ing
