Defence are giving notice that the RAAF’s retiring C-130H Hercules will be flying down Anzac Parade on Friday as part of their last hurrah:
One C-130H will conduct a flypast of Canberra at 3.20pm, approaching Mt Ainslie from the North/North East before overflying the Australian War Memorial and Anzac Parade at 175 metres altitude.
It will then climb and orbit Parliament House at 300 metres before descending and departing via Anzac Parade and Australian War Memorial.
Before getting too sentimental it’s worth remembering the C-130Js will continue in service.
This will close another chapter in the RAAF C130 history book. Hercs have been in Australian service since 1958.
I worked at RAAF Richmond for six and a half lovely years maintaining E and H model C130’s in the nineties.
Might have to wander out to Anzac Pde on Friday for an optic.
175m is pretty low, should be an impressive sight.
