Mr Stanhope has announced the winning projects for the 2010-11 ACT Heritage Grants program, in total $340,000:

Michelle Fulton
Prepare a Conservation Management Plan for Well Station Homestead Precinct: Stage 1 Homestead Precinct CMP: Stage 2 Indigenous Cultural Survey, Archaeological & Additional Values

Elizabeth Burness
Printing of booklet to distribute to ACT schools and public libraries.

Canberra & District Historical Society
To scan and put online 6,000 photos and associated historical information dating back over 100 years to be available to the Canberra community and for the coming centenary.

Narrabundah Prefabs History Group
A book on the history of the Narrabundah Prefabs from the late 1940s emphasising the history and heritage significance of the suburb of Narrabundah.

Professor Eddie Braggett
Supplementary funding to last year’s grant to print his book on the History of Anglican Centres in the Inner South of Canberra.

Kirsty Guster
Sunken Stories from Old Acton – to edit excerpts of video and audio stories of old Acton, into podcast (video) and podcasts (audio) for the ‘Heritage’ and ‘National Capital History’ trails on the Acton Walkways website

Southern ACT Catchment Group
Supplementary funding for last year’s heritage grant to enable a larger print run for illustrated stories about the history of the Tidbinbilla-Birrigai-Jedbinbilla precinct.

Theatre Organ Society of Australia (TOSA)
Installation of a pedal pipe rank (a bourdon pipe rank) and replacing wooden wind trunking to overcome wind leakages in the Compton Theatre Organ installed in the Albert Hall

Australian National University
Self Guided Heritage Trails – to produce thematic self guided walk/drive brochures promoting Canberra as the Art Deco city for the 2011 Heritage Festival and the 2013 Centenary

Publication of the biography of Charles Robert Scrivener, covering early life, Federal capital site selection, details of Molonglo Camp, Acton and Canberra’s inauguration.

Conservation Volunteers Australia
Promotion of the natural and cultural heritage site of Tidbinbilla, through the production of a 32 page book, ‘Tidbinbilla A-Z’ designed for early childhood students and their families.

Australian Garden History
Describe, scan and index the 100 year old Yarralumla Nursery records so they can be accessed in digitised form on a DVD or website.

National Trust of Australia (ACT)
Northern Centenary Border Walk – five self-guided walks presented in a brochure with interpretive signage and guide post markers along the Northern ACT/NSW Border.

Conservation Volunteers Australia
Condition/Assessment Report on a felled Aboriginal scarred tree located at Tharwa.

Arthur Wilks
Publication about the history of table tennis in the ACT over a period of 84+ years

Stepwise Heritage & Tourism
Stage 3 of a three year program that involves the implementation of a Conservation Management Plan (CMP) and a practical rock art monitoring and maintenance program for the seven rock art sites of Namadgi National Park.

Sweetwater Productions
Kosciuszko Huts Pilot – to produce a documentary on the history of the Australian Alps – to capture and share the memories of men and women with the strongest ‘sense of belonging’ to our Alps.

Reid Korean Uniting Church
Restoration Works as identified in the Conservation Management Plan to the Reid Korean Uniting Church which is listed on the ACT Heritage Register.

Conservation Council of the ACT
To reprint the Gungahlin’s Treasures booklet – produced and published under a previous ACT Heritage Grant.

Carousel Organ Restoration Group (CORG)
Dispatch to overseas professionals some of the original perforated book music for copying and restoration of missing sections and also to obtain a list of original music supplied in order to identify those with missing titles.

Retired ACT Transport Employees
To undertake oral histories of ten former ACT transport workers e.g. Commonwealth car drivers, bus drivers, conductors, mechanics, panel-beaters and office workers who worked for Canberra buses in the earlier years from 1940-1970. A grant will be sought in future to publish the stories into a book.

Heritage Advisory Service
This funding provides one hour of free heritage and architectural advice for prospective heritage purchasers and/or owners of heritage places intending to alter or update their properties. The service responds to public requests and ensures that heritage values are considered early and sympathetically in a development application.

Heritage Festival
The Heritage Festival has been running for 28 years as a community celebration of the ACT’s Indigenous, historic and natural heritage. A wide range of community groups contribute their services as volunteers and the festival is an annual highlight for many of these groups. The proposed dates for next year’s Festival from 9-24 April 2011 are in line with the National Trust heritage festival and others in the region.
