So have any of you ever spotted your own car on here?
I wonder what that would be like? You’ve wandered in to have a good Monday laugh at some poor parking then you are suddenly faced with your own shortcomings as a parker.
Would you laugh?
Would you cry?
Would you swear never to park poorly again?
If you’ve got any pictures of other people (perhaps ever Rioters) parking badly, send them to images@the-riotact.com and get them before they get you!
Be sure to include the work “parking” in the subject and let us know what name you would like to be credited with.
1. An anonymous Rioter kicks us off this week with some classic examples of the poor parking artform:
2. Another anonymous Rioter discovered some car-park hoarding at the Erindale Shops:
No badly parked cars, but the attached photos were taken outside Lucky Price Asian Grocery (Gartside St, Wanniassa; a.k.a the restaurant/takeaway strip at the Erindale Shops) where the proprietor has decided to lay claim to the two car spaces out the front of the shop. Nice try mate, but you don’t own the carpark.
3. Dom has a story of redemption in Hume:
Car 1 and 2 are from Hume, where on a daily basis it was the same. When I rang the owner of the business where these guys work I didn’t even have to explain anything and he’s asked his guys to park differently, which they have – thank you!
Car 3 is from a couple of years ago, but still makes me giggle: taken at EPIC at the time of the Arts & Craft show; very arty and crafty parking indeed 🙂
4. Busbooster thinks poorly of this parker:
This execrable park was in a ‘No Stopping Zone’ out the front of Me and Mrs Jones in Kingston on Tuesday night. Hopefully not the restaurant’s owner?
This car was so far out of bounds, it was almost on Giles Street. Idiot.
5. Gregory has a treat for us:
This car has no regard to the law, or the plight of the grass it scours on its to its favourite ‘park’. While the bush lawyer responsible might think they’ve got this one nailed, they might want to reconsider the fact that it’s not just road legislation that controls where you can park (Unleased Public Lands Act comes to mind). I can’t wait for the towing to commence! (You can’t fight city hall.)
Transcriptions of the handwritten notices:
Dear Parking Office,
Please refer to the attached P/N.
Note my vehicle which is parked outside the “off street parking area” that is clearly marked by the large grey concrete bollards, the exact location where I parked yesterday, 8/8/13. Therefore, the issuing of the offence description code 361 and 360 cannot be served. Despite the efforts of authorised person “21” yesterday.
I would also like to draw to your attention both:
1) The distance from the kerb to “The Shore”. This is nature strip/footpath and you will clearly note this distance continues from “The Shore past the “Off Street Parking Area”. My vehicle is past this distance and the issuing of the P/N cannot be served for this offence. The code escapes me at this time and I cannot assist you further.
2) To Make it clear, my vehicle is parked adjacent to the footpath and is not obstructed in any way. Again, issuing of the P/N cannot be served for this offence either.
Please refer to the “Australian Road Rules Act” and the “Road Transport Act” for further information and clarity. I would appreciate this information to be passed onto your colleagues to prevent further embarrasment to your department and the inappropriate use of time by all involved. Thank you for your time and am happy to be contact to discuss this matter further.
And the City Ranger’s (restrained) response:
Please cease parking your vehicle on Urban Open Space as off immediate. Further complaints will lead to rangers having your vehicle towed away and you paying for any restoration required of the Urban Open Space. Thank you.
6. No idea dislikes numpties:
Belconnen numpties , use the footpath to avoid paying for parking , they park like this even when there are free spaces on the road!
7. AmarooStu is a fan of Wayne’s World, which is a good thing:
Sterling effort under the Ernst and Young Building – THU 12/9/2013. “We are not worthy…..”
8. Mothy gives us the deets:
Bonner shops, 5:30pm Thurs 12th Sep
9. Tim send us these seven spots:
Daepoo on the lawn.
Illegally parked, or waiting for the bus – park’n’ride perhaps.
Bachelor of Arts Degree car – the car you get when you want a car but don’t know which one.
Suzuki Swift – I think I once saw one of these being driven within the speed limit.
Utes are for carrying tools around.
Security guard – supposed to discouraging law breakers.
Another one…
10. Joss serves up a double:
11. Queen_of_the_Bun is impressed:
Saw this possibly broken down car on Hindmarsh Drive on Friday the 13th. Still not sure how it was even possible to get onto the left turn median strip facing that way, but where there’s a NSW plate, there’s a way.
12. Mtb_rider fished this one up at the pool (I’m sorry about that):
As seen at Tuggeranong Pool this morning!
13. Loxmyf delivers up a fine selection:
Out and about today (Saturday) and saw a myriad cars left in good examples of how and where not to park.
The first 3 were Jamison. Where 2 and 3 were taken, there’s legitimate parallel parking on the right, but the centre line is well offset to allow that. Those oxygen-theives larking on the left side of the shot are parked in the through lane.
4 and 5 were at Westfield Belconnen.
6 was at Bunnings Belconnen.
14. Rebecca gifted us this:
At the Neptune parking centre at Woden Westfield.
15. Joshua is always on the job:
Taken in civic on friday night.
16. Sheep Groper is still hiding outside the chemist:
Two cars can almost but not quite share a loading zone, and the cheap chemist doesn’t
disappoint.
17. Rock hit us with this:
KPMG Paid car park Civic
While that fancy Audi does at first glance, appear to be a ‘small car’, maybe it, or the driver, is a bit wide for these spots. I hope they paid for two tickets!
Harold finishes this week off:
