Hire cars in Canberra?

I’ve had a few questionable taxi drivers of late, and require a hire car instead of a taxi to take me to the airport very early this Friday.

I’ve found a few phone numbers, but would like to know if anyone can give me some recommendations please?

Thanks in advance

My family used Canberra Limo last week. They were very satisfied. The pick up was perfect timing. The driver was super friendly and my mum was fascinated with the luxury and said the price was very affordable for such luxury! 🙂 . If anyone is interested in a limo instead of a taxi, give these guys a go.. http://www.canberralimo.com – 02 8310 4337.
Hope that helps.

Yes, I want to give you a suggestion. Why do you wish to hire just a driver instead of hiring a limousine service? It will surely finish your problem completely as they offer you best car with your choice and a highly skilled driver with many more options as insurance etc.

Hire Car is the legal, and less-pretentious, name for a limousine, the same way omnibus is the legal term for a bus.

I used to work in the Hire Car industry. The rates were always reasonable and in the same ballpark as a taxi from the airport. The biggest advantage is that you can book them FROM the airport to home (or wherever), for a FIXED PRICE and they will track your flight and (do their best to) meet you off it even if it is late – at no extra cost (with that little sign)… NO taxi will do that. A few of the drivers were arsehats to work for, but they will treat a customer very professionally, indeed. We rarely had complaints about service and had lots of repeat work/accounts.

It used to be $50 from the airport to Dunlop (when it was about $47 by taxi) – but that was a decade ago… probably a little more $$$ now… but I’d expect it to be within 10% of taxi fare… with cars waaaaaaaay superior to taxi cabs.

Have always arrived on time and with a very nice new clean car. People answer their phone; not some confused computer.

Not hire car but is reliable, has a clean & new taxi that is not a clapped out old Falcon. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Oh, SMS him & he will get back to you. It is a pain for him to recieve bookings while driving.

+1 for Barry!! I used to use him coz he lived close to my house and he’s simply the best in town by a long shot. A really decent bloke and good cars

Ask Kenny Koala. That dude is well versed in the hire car scene

http://canberrahc.com.au/ – never had a problem, drivers are always courteous and on time.

the only other one i’ve used is city limousines for airport pick-ups. generally good, however have had a couple of incidents where my booking has been missed on the run-sheet.

I hadn’t actually looked at the airport parking, I just presumed it would be expensive. $38 for 2 days (open air parking) is probably cheaper than a hire car would be, and like harvyk1 said, some random driver won’t know we are away.

So airport parking it is. Keep the hire car recs rolling in though, I’ll need to book hire cars in the future, not just for airport trips. After my last few taxi rides I want to avoid them if possible

Problem solved. Taxis that guarantee they will be there with a premium booking fee.

Clean, professional, on time and only slightly more expensive then a taxi.

Excellent service, and the right price if work is paying!

Have you considered driving yourself and parking at the airport? Long term parking rates at the airport are actually pretty reasonable (when compared to other cities) and if it’s only a few nights driving yourself out to the airport and simply paying for parking may be a good alternative.

For me, I’d need to park out there a full week (ie 7 or 8 days) before taxi’s become a potentially and better option. Plus you don’t have the risk of a stranger knowing your away…

I generally use Avis, but isn’t a hire car really pushing your needs for a simple drive to the airport? If you’re concerned that you won’t get there on time I’d personally ask a mate for a lift out, or get a prestige taxi/limo service.

I think by hire car, kezzafezza, you actually mean a chauffeur driven hire car with the “H” plates, not a self-drive rental vehicle from Avis or Hertz, etc. I can’t help with any suggestions, I think you’ll just have to ring up and get a quote.

Where do you live mate? If its close i’ll do it for $50
