Hmmmph. Don’t remember electing THEM

johnboy 14 December 2010 28
by order US Government

Owen sent this one in with this note:

Just in case you are wondering how brain washed we have become, the creators of this notice had no qualms about telling us who they thought they were taking orders from.

I take objection to the words “By Order US Government”. Those words should be omitted from the notice. In my paranoia the words imply our acquiescence to a foreign power.

Osama Bin Laden has well and truly won his war. And the stupids who use up valuable oxygen in Washington DC acquiescing (albeit unknowingly) to his agenda have no idea of where to go or what to do.

On that basis I can declare that I rather like his attitude… not only has he avenged the deaths of thousands of innocent Middle Eastern souls with the deaths of just a few hundred rich white New Yorkers, (innocent or not) but he has managed to cause untold disruption, grief and general unhappiness to hundreds of millions of the world’s richest citizens.

Of course this post will be viewed as heinous treachery of the highest order by virtually all RA readers, who have little idea that they are in fact the brainwashed media-fed lackeys so beloved of our spin-driven guvmnt and media, but I don’t care. I tend to think outside the square and make no apology for it.

I dunno, if the US Government is responsible for the surcharge then it is only fair and reasonable that we are told about it. At least we know who to blame.

True, although it would have been nicer if it read “We apologise that, due to the stupidity of the US Government we have to pass on an anti-terrist charge for all parcels over 543g. We don’t like it any more than you do.”

Erg0 Erg0 3:54 pm 14 Dec 10

Technically, the US Government requires the postal carrier to pay the charge and they’ve chosen to pass the cost on to the consumer. So yes, “by order US Government” is not an accurate statement as it relates to my payment of nine bucks. If that was excluded then the notice would be perfectly fine.

Great. Now how am I going to send my 456g of anthrax to the US? I’m surely not paying another $9.

Skidbladnir Skidbladnir 4:21 pm 14 Dec 10

Apparently, this drastic increase is either cost-recovery for doing what should have been happening anyway, or mail-bombers are cheapskates and high prices are a disincentive.
The good newsis that its meant to be temporary.
Just as soon as all brown people terrorists have stopped resenting American interference in their internal affairs and an aggressive foreign policy hating freedom, the security screening will be stopped.

But it could be worse, New Zealand was unable to ship anything over the 16oz limit to the US, and Japan had to do the same.
Their issue was passenger planes carrying parcel postage, but now all parcels off cargo planes is being screened in bulk (hence the fee).

Looks like all my mail bombs will be 452.9 grams from now on.

I’m shocked and appalled by this sign. It’s a sad reflection on the state of our society when capital-Os can still be passed off as zeros.

Those 3 grams make all the difference. I assume this is the metric equivalent to some antiquated US only measure?

Heyyyy, come on now. 100 x 3 grams is 300grams …. that’s nearly half an entire kilo. Someone has got to lift that into the scanner machine.

That would be the pound, yes. 1lb = ~453g

I believe that the unit of weight measurement in the US of A is the pound (lb)…

JC JC 6:15 pm 14 Dec 10

Cannot see any great problem, it is a charge foisted upon us by the US government, so why not show it so the customer understands why it is costing so much.

The whole security thing though is getting beyond a joke though. The other day I had to send something by air and I had to fill out a form to say my parcel didn’t contain toner cartridges nor did it originate from Yemen or Somalia. Now really what’s the point? If I was someone wanting to perform an act of terrorism do you think I would be telling the truth on the form?

BerraBoy68 BerraBoy68 6:17 pm 14 Dec 10

Ahh, but is it $9 US or Australian?

Well picked up.

Personally I want to know who’s responsible for approving expenditure on a fancy glossy sign that’s got a a typo on it.

Measures like this, and the intrusive and offensive ‘security’ procedures at US airports, are costing US taxpayers a fortune over and above the on ground costs.

It is the ‘theatre of security’ again (as PPs have said, all you have to do is go below the weight limit), while millions of containers go in to the US unchecked – if they were, global commerce would grind to a halt.

Good on the signposter(s) for explaining what is going on.

I also think outside the square. TSA and other government agencies have succumbed to the ‘terror’ and innocent citizens are being controlled by a paranoid world.
Any freedom we still have is just a dream. Time for the masses to wake up and really see what is happening.

The US of A – really, why do we bother with them anyway?

“Gms” and “G” not actually being measurements of mass. Maybe third time lucky.

Damn it
