Ho ho boo to DJs for Christmas in September

I was just down at DJs today and saw, gasp, Christmas decorations for sale!

Apparently, they’ve had them up since August already.

If I wasn’t so disillusioned with retail outlets I would feel outraged at their greed.

What happens in countries that don’t celebrate baby Jesus’ birthday?

A mate of mine once showed me a photo of Christmas decorations in Tokyo shopfront – They included a mannequin dressed as Santa Clause nailed to a wooden cross …

They and their babies go to hell for eternity?

I assume that this is done so that they don’t need to find something else to fill that floorspace for a month or so after Father’s Day. It’s really just an indication of the efficiency of the retailer. I doubt that they really sell many more Christmas decorations as a result of putting them out so early.

The retailers only do this because it gets them results.

I see it out so early and go into the mindset of ‘Oh, plenty of time’ and still end up doing a majority of my shopping a few short days before christmas, everytime.

It irks me seeing it out so early though.

I wouldn’t mind being a bit rich… Then at least I’d be able to buy luxury Christmas items without much hesitation :p

Retail greed? Come on that is a bit rich Rosebud! I will bet NO-ONE was buying anything.

Christmas decorations (or Trim a Home as it’s known in the biz) generally go out right after Father’s Day, it’s part of the DJ’s traditional retail calendar.

September? They’re leaving it a bit late if my experience is any guide. When I worked at Woolworths as a trolley boy in the early ’90s, Easter eggs were put on the shelves on Boxing Day. I quipped that the next step would be hanging the Easter eggs on Christmas trees as decorations.
