With international travel off the table, Kiama on the South Coast of NSW has become a vacation hotspot for Canberrans this year looking to holiday closer to home.

Being an easy three-hour drive from the region, locals have been spending their holiday time and dollars taking in the famous blowholes, unspoilt beaches, lush rolling hills, world-class waves, ancient rainforests, picturesque towns, vibrant villages, and emerging dining scene.

A new addition for foodies in the area is Fish Tribe, offering the freshest seafood to satisfy holiday fish and chip cravings. Located in the scenic town of Kiama Downs on Johnson Street’s rapidly growing ‘eat street’, Fish Tribe offers locals and visitors real Australian seafood, locally sourced and cooked to order.

As an alternative to the usual frozen and pre-made fish and chips, Fish Tribe has a fresh approach to seafood, using only quality produce from local suppliers, prepared and cooked to order with fresh market daily specials.

Traditional fish and chip lovers will savour the Battered Fish & Chips, Pan Fried Barramundi, Robertson Potato Scallop and Chilli Lime Squid with green salad, chips and tartare.

Baja Fish Tacos

Those looking for a healthier option will love the Baja Fish Tacos with chipotle slaw, avocado tomato salsa and coriander; Poke Bowl with raw tuna or confit salmon, soba noodles, nori, edamame, pickled onion, radish and ponzu; or the Cold Seafood platter with sashimi, prawns, steamed spanner crab and South Coast oysters.

Summer specials will be a break away from the norm, with dishes including Fish Collars with nahm chim and Asian herb salad; Kingfish Ceviche with green chilli, mango and garlic crisp; and Fish Cheek Meat San Choy Bow.

Fish Tribe is the second venue from local couple Emma and Jason Young, who opened Stacks Burger House & Eatery two years ago right next door. They will be joined by newly appointed executive chef Robert Blackburn, who brings with him a wealth of experience from venues including Queen St Eatery in Berry, The Bridge Room and Cirrus Dining in Sydney.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Robert on board and announce the opening of our latest venue. Robert has a really strong background and passion for seafood and will be using only the freshest local seafood and produce the South Coast has to offer,” co-owner Emma Young explains.

“Having tried out a pop-up menu with locals and visitors a few weeks ago, we now have a menu that we think will offer something for everyone, with fine dining quality that can be enjoyed anywhere.”
