A 35-year-old Narrabundah man has been arrested overnight after allegedly severely beating a 44-year-old woman and tying up her 48-year-old husband.

About 4.30pm yesterday (Wednesday, March 23) the male victim was at home in Narrabundah when the alleged offender has entered, demanding money. A scuffle has ensued with the victim being assaulted and tied up.

His wife returned home shortly after and was badly beaten by the intruder, suffering multiple injuries including a fractured skull and jaw. The woman is being treated in The Canberra Hospital for her injuries.

The 35-year-old man fled the location, taking the victim’s car. Information led police to believe he was heading to an address in NSW. NSW Police were contacted and located the man about 2am in Goulburn where he was arrested.

NSW Police have handed custody of the man over to ACT Policing. He will be charged with aggravated burglary, intentionally inflict grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, forcible confinement and take motor vehicle without consent.

Perhaps the Supreme Court shouldn’t have given this bloke bail after his last offence.

Within the A.C.T. most drug addicts, who are crims, re-offend for the duration of their habit/addiction.

A known fact, re; the A.F.P, the majority of criminals in their late twenties and early thirties who have careers in break and enters, re-commit until receiving and doing the long hauls in Goulburn or (now) the Maconachie.

So, after your place is broken into with you at home, at work, or out to play, do realise that when you are reporting the break-in to the A.F.P., most officers already have a long relationship with most of the older offenders, ie, long lists of their ‘known’ previous offenders, dealt with monthly over other break-ins. They are more often than not, let off in court, regularly, over many years. A.F.P. time and resources are saved by not bothering to visit their regular crims addresses recovering peoples property stolen.

The same old story – why bother charging a drug addict? The stolen property is usually sold quickly, a court case needs pursuing, using a victim’s time money and resources, with no guarantee that a fine is imposed or costs of stolen goods re-imbursed later.

Lastly, if the AFP officers are kind and thoughtful, some will inform victims to prepare themselves for reprisals from the crims down the track, if they pursue the ‘charging and court’ road, particularly in relation to home burglaries ie damaged property later, an assault on a family member, a murdered family member years later by someone connected to a previous home burglary who was charged as examples.

One consolation:

‘Karma comes around twice as hard’ and ‘every dog will have its day; one day!’.

The guy is a drug addict from Hawker who has done this before earlier this year

Man ‘tied up, gagged neighbour’, court told
A Canberra man accused of tying up his 67-year-old neighbour with electrical cords and stealing his car, has been refused bail.

Benjamin Brennan, 35, is accused of forcing his way into his neighbour’s Hawker house, after he refused to lend him his car on Tuesday night.

A police informant told the ACT Magistrates Court, Brennan tied the 67-year-old man to a chair with electrical cords, telling him he was there on behalf of people who wanted him dead.

It is alleged he then re-tied the man on the bedroom floor, gagged him with a tea towel and took his wallet and car keys.

He was caught an hour later in Civic.

Aboriginal community leader Aunty Agnes Shae gave evidence in support of Brennan, saying he helped care for her sick brother.

But Magistrate Maria Doogan refused bail, saying Brennan had a prolific criminal history of violence.

I’m interested how you link the two?

Why dose it matter so much how i linked the two the storys?, What matters here is there is a women ln hospital with her skull smashed in which could have being prevented if they kept him in the first time.

So is helping someones sick mother supposed to balance out giving a woman a savage beating that breaks her skull and jaw? What’s this Agnes woman thinking? She should be condemning this turds actions, not defending him.

He’d get more than a scuffle from me, and it wouldn’t be me tied up and assaulted at the end of the biff session if he tried it.

There are people out there who need shooting.

It is time for a starchamber in this city to get rid of those the courts won’t punish.

Re my previous post. Nope, I wasn’t wrong.

The bashing he allegedly gave the lady in the case is horrific. Please do not let people like this have free rein in our society.

Clearly the $20 fine wasn’t enough. I hope they fine him $50 this time. That’ll teach him.

georgesgenitals1:26 pm 24 Mar 11

If the guy has done this more than once, there’s really only one place for him: gaol.

scum bag! this town is following the rest of the country and the western world where nobody respects anything and more and more young people think its cool to join gangs because of what they see on shows like underbelly. the result is what happened here. once a scum bag always a scum bag but if he came to my house and I killed him defending my mrs at least id get off as we live in the ACT with our soft laws… see what i mean…. everyone not scared of the law no more. it is such a problem in england that there is more and more people calling for sharia law. thats not my wish as i think if people accepted the fact they made a mistake and cop the punishment then maybe scum bags wont be on the street. this doesnt happen because of lawyers and every other person who stands up for the scum bag instead of saying no! you were wrong stiff!

Looking at his “history” and “heritage” and “Aunty” backing him, it’s a wonder Doogan refused bail, still no sentence and “warning” to let him out on the streets again. What a joke of a judicial system we have.

Mobug said :

This guy sould not be let out. What does he have to kill someone before they will keep him lock up?

Hahaha, that’s not even enough to get you locked up in Canberra. Look at how many accused murderers have walked free or received sentences so light that it begs the question whether we should even bother with a justice system here.

Could you please change the headline? The offender is not from Goulburn. The story clearly states he’s someone from Narrabundah who was simply caught in Goulburn. Goulburn is a fantastic and safe place to live, with little violent crime.

To be fair, Goulburn is a good place to live. We have friends there who love it.

A shame they couldn’t charge him in NSW – he sure as hell wouldn’t get off as lightly as he will here.
