Homeworld Tuggeranong parking

Some time ago, I drove into the Homeworld carpark to discover freshly painted arrows on the road. “Oh, they’ve made it one way. That’ll be easier” I thought. It was always a bit of a tight fit.

Now, maybe a year(?) later it seems I’m the ONLY one who can actually see these arrows. Every. Single. Time. I enter and follow the arrows I come face to face with some moron heading towards me. And not just ONE, it’s pretty much everyone else in the carpark. I wait for someone to vacate a park at Dan’s and sure enough, they always reverse out so they’re facing me. The WRONG WAY. I do the loop around and constantly have to move over to the left to let another car past who’s going the wrong way, instead of driving down the middle like I should be able to do.

I have occasionly pointed to the road and mouthed ONE WAY (dickhead) but am met with blank stares.

I am honestly at a loss as to why. If they stood out like dogs balls to me the first time I drove in there after they were painted, how come they don’t to anyone else??? If it was only a couple of people I wouldn’t feel the need for this rant, but it’s 90% of people in that car park, EVERY time I go in there!

I just drive up the middle nowadays if I have the spare time. Creates chaos.

That.

Incidentally, I was there on Xmas eve doing a last minute Dan Murphys run and I noted a police car enter the complex. Wondered if they now check out the car park periodically due to complaints. They could just have been doing a last minute doughnut run before the Xmas shut down.

I just drive up the middle nowadays if I have the spare time. Creates chaos.

A year later and its still an issue at Homeworld. This morning I encountered 3 cars going against the arrows. The first driver (female) called me a dickhead and stated that you can drive both ways, the second gave me the finger for merely pointing at the arrows. I just sighed with the third driver.

I only noticed the arrows the other day. Some sort of signage would be good, since its clear the arrows dont work.

but yeah, who can ever find a park in that place?? I am there once a week for an appointment at around 5 and see plenty of people leaving with public servant tags hanging from their necks.

every Tuesday night at approx 7.45 a big Asian food delivery truck pulls in there to drop food off to the restaurant with the dead ducks hanging in the window.

they block all cars from getting past, and i have seen people returning to their cars to leave and this truck has parked them in. Lots of sorry sorry 2 mins but not a lot of action.

They’re not obviously *that* sorry given they do it week after week after week.

And don’t get me started on the people who stop right in the middle of that front carpark to wait five minutes for somebody to leave, leaving no room for pthers to get past (many of which are just dropping passengers off to work at the mall) which in turn creates a massive traffic jam at that pathetic little roundabout.

+1 billion to that. + 1 billion more because there’s a car park right downstairs that’s free for two hours and requires no more than a 100m walk to get to the same place!

The one way carpark at the front of Woden Plaza (out where Grilld’d, Oporto and the restaurants are) is getting worse too.

Several times recently I’ve driven in there only to be confronted with somebody driving directly towards me, going the wrong way, with a “what the hell are you doing?” expression on their face. They proceed to squeeze past and discover that when they want to turn right to get to the roundabout at the carpark and Corinna St intersection that there’s a nice big concrete island blocking their path.

Most realise their mistake and do a left turn into the underground carpark but I’ve seen some people scrape the crap out of their car by goin over the island.

And don’t get me started on the people who stop right in the middle of that front carpark to wait five minutes for somebody to leave, leaving no room for pthers to get past (many of which are just dropping passengers off to work at the mall) which in turn creates a massive traffic jam at that pathetic little roundabout.

Rant over. I feel better now!

Umm Unless its on private property I would think. Is the Hyperdome considered private property?

Umm, you’ve got the wrong shopping centre. I’ll say this slowly so you understand, we are talking about Homeworld not the Hyperdome. Roger that?

Oh, and another thing. Read the definition of a road related area again. Once you have just come back to me with whether you think this is private property again.

You know, there are still some things in life that are still fairly easy to grasp.

I stand corrected………….on some but not all.

Seriously, Giant white arrows on the ground. Do we need to move onto the neon signs and blinking lights?

How about those one-way “severe tyre damage” spikes?

I am absolutely astounded at your post….astounded at the fact that you actually managed to find a park at the Homeworld Centre! Pretty much every time I go there on a weekday, I cannot find a park, mainly because of the workers from the neighbouring offices that use the place as their personal all day park. One day (after ending up parking under the Hyperdome and walking across the road) I was talking to a trader about it and she said its an ongoing issue with them – she even pointed out several cars parked near her shop which she could identify as all day parkers because she saw them arrive at 8.30 and leave at 5. She suggested I write a letter of complaint to management and even supplied me with the relevant lady’s name so I sent her an email and of course, never heard anything back. I now avoid going there. Its only becasue there is one trader (Savvy) that there’s no equivalent for that I sometimes have to end up there but for other traders, I take my business elsewhere.

OMG what a bunch of whingers!

Getting out my tiny little violin.

Its been discussed many times, anything that is publicly accessible can have the road rules enforced. There was a thread about someone being fined for parking in a disabled spot in a maccas carpark.

For the ignorant out there the Australian Road Rules (ARR) state:

11

Rules apply to vehicles and road users on roads and road related areas
(1) These Rules apply to vehicles and road users on roads and road related areas.
Note…road related area is defined in rule 13.

13

What is a road related area
(1) A road related area is any of the following:
(d) an area that is not a road and that is open to or used by the public for driving, riding or parking vehicles.
.

Umm Unless its on private property I would think. Is the Hyperdome considered private property?

Mr Cholet and I were only talking about this on Saturday. Great minds think alike (and fools never differ).

Being a weekend visitor to Homeworld at Tuggers, this annoys Mr Cholet constantly. He takes great pleasure in educating the imbeciles who travel in the wrong direction. This is against the law people and earlier posters tacit and overt consent of the blatant disregard for the laws of the road shows them up as a likely kinship sub-group of the previously mentioned imbeciles.

For the ignorant out there the Australian Road Rules (ARR) state:

11 Rules apply to vehicles and road users on roads and road related areas
(1) These Rules apply to vehicles and road users on roads and road related areas.
Note…road related area is defined in rule 13.

13 What is a road related area
(1) A road related area is any of the following:
(d) an area that is not a road and that is open to or used by the public for driving, riding or parking vehicles.

88 Left turn signs
(1) If there is a left turn only sign at an intersection, a driver must turn left at the intersection.

98 One-way signs
(1) A driver must not drive on a length of road to which a one-way sign applies except in the direction indicated by the arrow on the sign.

So, obviously the Homeworld car park is a road related area where the AAR apply.

Mr Cholet concedes that there is no ‘one-way’ sign per se, but this is indicated by the use of arrows; very bright yellow ones now, you’ve got to be blind to miss them!

If you have an accident and you are going against the arrows i.e. the wrong way, you can receive TINs for a number of offences against the ARR.

If Mr Cholet had a car that required panel work he would crash into you so you would be paying for the repairs.

I’d like to see the police administer this until the message gets through. Hell, they are only just around the corner and it’d be money for jam. I’m sure people would start going the correct way if they saw the police there, which would only go to prove they know they are doing the wrong thing.

Oh sweet jesus thankyou! This irks me incredbily and you’re about the fifth independent person to raise this issue. I urge you to continue mouthing “one way dickhead” to said morons. I drive just to the right of the centre or the ‘roads’, enough so morons can’t pass me. I have twice now gotten out of my car and walked over to the giant arrows and pointed at them, then returned to my car. Both times this has resulted in the moron reversing, however I’d be careful applying it to a carload of drunk tradies exiting PJ’s.

I’ve had this at Belconnen Mall. A white 4WD with furrowed brow, desperately trying to understand why people were not being forthcoming on letting him past. Even though he was forcing his way through anyway.

Seriously, Giant white arrows on the ground. Do we need to move onto the neon signs and blinking lights?

Sorry but you just need to accept that the majority of people who occupy mall carparks are the same ones that rely on luck to get each shoe on the correct foot in the morning. Expecting them to understand arrows is a tall order.

Yup. Glad there’s at least one other person who can see the arrows. It’s not that hard, people, and it avoids the ugliness on the crowded corners in the carpark.

Disinformation10:28 am 21 Nov 11

This is one place where I actually think that in the majority of times, carpark arrows are a waste of time. Unless it’s a high rise carpark with absolutely defined directions, it can be relatively safe to make a decision. Realistically, the people who make the bad decisions in this case wouldn’t have been paying attention to the arrows even if they had been there.

Yep, this happens pretty much everywhere – Westfield Woden is another example. Most annoying are the people who’ll happily blow by the No Entry signs to take a shortcut into the carpark at a local centre – Deakin is especially bad for this.

Dont worry, had this problem at Belconnen Mall, Homeworld, Swanson Plaza, pretty much if there is an arrow on the road in a car park, they are about as useful as The Green Party.
