Another year, another disappointment for the RiotACT team, again missing out on Australia Day honours.

The Chief Minister has made himself useful and released a list of those who have been fortunate enough to get a gong.

And the winners, and new members of the Order of Australia are:

The Reverend Dr Elizabeth MacKinlay
Professor Hilary Charlesworth
Andrew Pike (just a medal, not a membership)
Jack Waterford
– Eric Koundouris (can’t find a online bio for him but several links to his development companies and boards he has been on)
Dr Peter Shergold (promotion to Companion of the Order)
– John Bond (medal)

(Thanks to NTP for the bio links, and more on the order for those who are interested)

Now if onbly they’d go to ‘tabloid’ paper size (but not content!).
It’s so farcical sitting on a plane with 3 people in a row all trying to read broadsheet papers…
It’s bad enough even in the morning at breakfast that I’m looking at buying a bigger dining table!

CT has improved of late. But they dumbed it down so much for a while there that they lost most of their readers. Bet they regret that now.

Got a lot of respect for Waterford’s editorials – best thing about the CT I think.
On the topic, I know a lot of people have less than joyous things to say about CT, but having experienced several other regional dailys, I can say that the CT is way above them. It would also trump Brisbane’s Courier Mail I think, and some of the big city papers are far less worth their purchase price than CT. I don’t think I’d pay full price from the newsagents a lot of week days, but as an overall dumped-on-your-doorstep subscription – reasonable value (except for being woken up nightly at 2AM by the arsehole who delivers it while practicing his rally driving…).

Yay for Andrew Pike – someone who definately richly deserves the honours (if you don’t know who he is, he’s the bloke who owned Electric Shadows for the past few decades)

Isn’t Ms Charlesworth the dame who gave the ACT a Bill of Rights it didn’t need, thereby handing over the keys of the city to the ACT Supreme Court?

Hooray for Hilary Charlesworth. She is most excellent.

Jack Waterford??
