This is Canberra. There will be a few hard core complainers about anything, and seemingly eager to take it as far as they can. I imagine potential complaints would include it being an eyesore (well duh), the need to protect the heritage value of the exisitng car park, threats to the nesting habits of the Indian mynah bird and it will attract gangs of rowdy teens late at night.

Weren’t some residents complaining about the hospital heli-pad a few years ago because of the noise of 1 to 2 landings per day?

We’ll never know. So much for Stanhope’s statement immediately after the last election, when he said that his government had learned a lesson about what Canberran’s really want.

That was after the litany of stuff-ups, including school closures, the DFO site, the gas power station, GDE, and so many others.

The reality is that he has learned nothing at all, and his government still behaves in the same dictatorial, arrogant manner that they always have.

Why, oh why did the Libs conspire with labor for 4 year terms? A plague on both their houses.

I would like to know what the frivolous objections were that justified the use of call-in powers. Here’s Katy’s own words:

poptop – you must remember that the car park is required before they can construct the other new buildings proposed for hospital services. Where on earth are they supposed to park when they have all these additional services & staff at the hospital. You need the basic infrastructure there beforehand.

This is a carpark development, not a development that will deliver hospital services; accordingly I think this is the benchmark against which all future developments in the ACT need to be measured.

If a carpark is worthy, when is a development NOT important enough to use the Planning Minister’s call in powers?
