House fire in Tharwa

The ACT Fire Brigade and ACT Rural Fire Service is on scene at a house fire in Tharwa.

The Brigade responded immediately with three fire pumpers, water tanker and BA van after an emergency triple zero call at 12:27pm.

A nearby ACTRFS appliance was first on scene and is assisting in the firefighting effort.

Update to follow.

UPDATE: Firefighters have contained the fire to one end of the brick veneer house and the roof space.

Crews are continuing to work on extinguishing the fire.

Further Update: Firefighters are still working on extinguishing the fire which is producing a lot of smoke.

Additional water resources have been responded to the fire to assist with firefighting operations.

UPDATE 3: Firefighters have extinguished the fire and are now mopping up and searching for hot spots in the roof space.

Smoke has also largely dissipated.

The property has been destroyed with the initial damage bill estimated at approximately $400,000.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage but will be investigated.

This would explain the two tankers that went speeding past work at that time today.
