How drunk can you get while driving a bus?

johnboy 30 April 2009 49

One really wonders what sort of lifestyle choices lead to the behaviour described today by the police:

A 54-year-old ACTION bus driver will be summonsed to court after he was identified allegedly driving a bus whilst twelve times over the legal limit this afternoon (April 30).

ACT Policing officers were called to Kotara Crescent, Narrabundah about 3.00pm after receiving a request for assistance. Police located the bus on the side of the road and the driver was transported to the Woden Police Station, where he recorded an alcohol reading of 0.256, more than 12 times the legal limit for a bus driver in the ACT.

He will be summonsed to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court on July 16.

No passengers were on the bus at the time of the incident.

Bear in mind that while TWELVE TIMES OVER THE LIMIT makes for a sensational headline the driver was *only* five times over the limit which applies to most drivers on the road.

May I extend a personal thank you to neanderthalsis for providing the symptoms of a man between .21 and .29. I hear everyone’s rallying for him to beat .35 next time!

So he was arouind the .25 mark then?

That still means:
(likely signs at 0.21–0.29)

Loss of Understanding
Impaired Sensations
Severe Motor Impairment
Loss of Consciousness
Memory Blackout

Word has it sportingbet has the shortest odds on a Sydney bussie getting the next .35 DUI reading at 100-1

I’ve a sneaking suspicion I know the driver in this case. If it’s not him then I know another driver that has driven buses drunk (on several occasions) i might add. Even though the bus was empty in this case the driver should be sacked (in addition to whatever he gets in court).

Where is that prized idiot Craig Duby nowadays? Surely not working for ACTION.

i drive about a thousand ks a week around Canberra….I thought all the bus drivers were pissed. I still can’t figure out that give way thing…..The picture on the sticker shows a bus with the right blinker on. The buses seem to lack a right blinker…or all the drivers are souped up….Speaking of which…time for a beer…lol – have a nice day everyone!!

The reading could have been unfairly high if the driver had just had a drink, with the alcohole still in his breath! but really if he was drinking at all it is no good, what is wrong with people how did he think this was acceptable, or does that no matter. he should go to jail.

I have been told that the driver who was drunk radioed ACTION & asked for them to send someone out as they were drunk. But ACTION sent the Police instead.

Also anyone that states that they were on this bus are not telling the truth, as this particular driver was not on a shift at the time & had taken the bus without any prior knowledge of ACTION. That is coming from within ACTION as well.

“How drunk can you get while driving a bus?”

Find me a bus and a crate of good Scotch and I’ll let you know.
