How green are those electrons?

Erg0 – wow, what sort of education have we been giving those young folk? Blessedly, of course, it actually doesn’t matter either way – for all its imperfections, green power does still help develop a viable renewable energy sector – even if some of the customers are a tad simple minded with the details, at least their hearts are in the right place.

I wasn’t joking, I really have had that conversation.

Admittedly it was with members of Gen Y, but it still counts.

I’ve wondered for a while how green energy schemes are regulated. Seems like an ideal opportunity for a bit of quiet rorting.

Interesting to see what comes out of this.
Although I will say, former employees usually don’t tend to be the most accurate source of information.

The sad thing is that I’ve talked to people who genuinely believe that they’re getting different power than their neighbour.

How do they tag the green electrons? Mu neighbor has a green energy sticker on their place, meaning that they pay more for their power. I do not – How do the green electrons that they pay for know to get to their place?

Am I using up their green power, while they are actually using my dirty power?

Is it not mostly green anyway, coming from the Snowy Mountains hydro system?

Re #2 – I take it to be – charging us MORE for green power “when it isn’t really green?”

They are probably ‘offset’ in the new arboretum….

Can someone explain this to me in words of one syllable?

I’ve read the ABC link, but I can’t really understand what ACTEW are being accused of – is it charging us for green power when it isn’t really green?
