Esspresso: $2 in under 2 minutes, otherwise it’s a s*** cafe.

$2? Where is this wondrous cafe selling coffee at a loss?

Sadly the actual difference is often minimal.

A flat white is often served with a latte foam, as is a cap. Using a flat as a basis a latte will be the same but served in a glass, whereas a cap will be the same with chocolate dusting.

Having bought an $80 aldi coffee machine I’m amazed by how much foam the steam through the coffee can generate

I send back flat whites if they have too much foam.

If I wanted a latte I’d order one.

Diggety I have 11 types of serving cups, 3 coffees, 2 chocolates, chai powder, a dozen teas, 3 milks and 4 flavour syrups. When 20 people order a drink at the same time I can run 3 groups and 2 jugs but each group takes about 40 seconds from grind to pour and I need to pour the milk over the coffee, stir in the chai, put the tea in the pot, add flavours.

Don’t like it? Tell the other customers to stop ordering stupid coffee. I can churn out espresso at probably 20 per minute if I’m grinding and pouring at the same time. But it’s never going to happen.

Sounds like you’re putting in more effort than some well known Canberra places.

The owner of one cafe, which is part of a very popular local chain once confirmed to me that they don’t actually bother making lattes and flat whites differently, they just make them all the same and no one seems to mind even if they’re listed as two different things on the menu.

Not sure what’s funnier, that they do it or the coffee snobs don’t realise.

Brodburgers new venture?

I think the worst part about this is not the illiterate signwriter, but the fact the customer has either not picked up the mistake, or just not cared.

Well I for one didn’t know this van existed … so the mistake (which very happily has converted to a pun) has led to what, a few hundred dollars worth of PR? Great outcome for the business!

The ironing (irony) is delicious.

That’s a tough one, sign writers, printers and the like tend to not get involved in things like spelling…if the customers gives them the text and signs off on it then that’s what goes on.

I was once in a team of three that all reviewed and signed off on a product label, only to find out that instead of ABN, the 2000 labels had the companies ‘ABS’ number. No-one picked it until they were printed.

While you might argue that the sign writer should have pointed it out, if they pointed out one fault but missed another the customer could claim that the sign-writer had reviewed it and because they missed it it was their fault. At least when they don’t get involved they can fall back on the customer having signed off on it.

sign writing goodness

Expresso?

Better just order an expresso or a cup-of-chino then!

See something like that out at the Grant Cameron Centre, so guess someone has found a market niche and is filling the need. Good luck to them.
