Have you ever thought what it would be like to taste Telstra Tower? Well today, you’re in luck. Forget the unicorn frappicinno, it’s time to learn how to make a Telstra Tower hot chocolate.

Ingredients:

  • 3 white marshmallows
  • 1 white mini marshmallow
  • 2 cups milk
  • 100 grams white chocolate
  • 100 grams milk chocolate
  • small handful of white choc chips
  • green sprinkles
  • whipped cream
  • red and white striped straw
  • short glass jar

Method:

Step 1: Cut a mini marshmallow in half, then make holes in each half using the end of your straw. Make holes in two large marshmallows, and thread these and the mini marshmallow halves onto your straw.

Step 2: Cut the tips off a handful of white choc chips. You will need these in Step 4, they’re going to be your microwave transmitters/receivers (circle hangy things).

Step 3: Break white chocolate into pieces and melt in the microwave at 20 second intervals, stirring until it reaches a smooth consistency.

Step 4: Pour spoonfuls of white chocolate over your straw, starting at the point just above the mini marshmallows. Make sure to keep rotating the straw to achieve even coverage. While still wet, place the white choc chips in rows around the lower marshmallow. Place in the freezer for 10 minutes to set. It can be easier to ‘glue’ the choc chips on in two or three rounds and freeze in between if you prefer.

Step 5: Spread white chocolate over the rim of your jar, then dip the rim in green sprinkles. Place in the freezer to set for 10 minutes.

Step 6: When your tower and jar have set, cut about another half-length of straw and insert it into the base of your tower. This will make your tower tall enough to poke out of your mountain of whipped cream!

Step 7: Stick a marshmallow onto the very bottom of the straw. In case you hadn’t guessed by now, the straw is purely decorative. You won’t be able to drink from it ’cause it will be full of gummy marshmallow!

Step 8: Pour the remainder of your white chocolate onto the base of your tower, cementing it to the bottom of your jar. You are setting a solid foundation for your whole masterpiece here, so take your time. Hold the tower upright with a knife on either side of the jar, and place in the freezer to set for 10 minutes.

Step 9: When you are ready to serve, break your chocolate into pieces and microwave at 20 second intervals, stirring as you go until it reaches a smooth consistency. In a separate glass, heat the milk for 1-2 minutes to your desired temperature.

Step 10: Mix the milk in with the melted chocolate until the chocolate dissolves. Pour your hot chocolate mixture into your prepared glass (it’s easier to use a slim glass or small jug to work around the tower).

Step 11: Top with whipped cream and sprinkles to create Black Mountain, and voila! Give yourself a pat on the back – you have just reached peak Canberra! Enjoy your hot chocolate snuggled up in a blanky on a chilly winter morning.
